    Maynard ran a long time before he jumped.

    He has form.

    It was his first act of the game.

    It's hard not to want a lot more of these smothers so the Afl do something .

    Then he stated Brayshaw changed direction and that he was in Maynard's way.  As the player with possession of the ball, it was Maynard's responsibility to not be in Brayshaw's way.  What get me though is everyone was in agreement that Maynard was airborne before Brayshaw kicked the ball.  If that was the case, then that is proof it was not a smother attempt in the context of Maynard's testimony that Brayshaw changed direction - for Maynard's version to make sense, he would have assumed the ball would pass by the left of him, so how could he argue it was a smother attempt if he assumed the ball was not going to go anywhere near him?

    So many holes and he got away with it.  And the AFL in the "wisdom" didn't challenge it.

    KDF   there was nothing real about the tribunal.....it was all pretence.  Many are trying to apply logic reason ,sense and accountability to an organisation that neither uses nor advocates any.

    The AFL...read Muppet Christian knew not to actually go forward with it....However the Kane mutiny was invoked ( in a fashion...still wondering if that was truly real or more optics )....and then they had to make up some rubbishy scripted sham parody of examination to placate the inconvenient minions who dare question the almighty wisdom of the AFL-Collective.

    Gus did nothing wrong.  He passed the ball and did exactly what he was supposed to do.  I see that as nothing more then victim blaming. Like the sham of that tribunal hearing.

    I have my own reasons for hating that man.  My uncle was chair of the Olympic Park Trust at the time of Collingwood trying to name Olympic Park the Bob Rose Oval, and it was my uncle that told him he couldn't do it.  That man went after my uncle professionally and personally, and for that I think of him as nothing more than scum of the earth.

    The Byron Pickett type bump on defenceless players went on for years before the league acted.  Never mind that a player could have ended up in a wheelchair anytime whilst the glut of deliberate bumps to the head went on (and yes, I'm aware that Pickett played for us)

    Laura Kane is talking about closing the loophole at the end of the season with the type of king hit that we witnessed but why not now?

    Simple reason ... they'd be therefore having to admit that the thug did the wrong thing and should have got weeks (in other words, it's too soon)

    As to whether it happens again?  There's a fair chance it will happen again and it could be Maynard as the perpetrator again.  After all, they've said that he had no case to answer for so why not continue?

I mean see this all the time in the Olympics, you know on the high diving tower, the floor routines in gymnastics, the high jump all the time.     Just wondering why the frisbee nonsense wasn’t challenged, there were options and Maynard was in the best position, arms out in front, just before he chose to turn the shoulder that did the damage. I believe He would have stayed open if he was about to collide with a team mate. 

    Maybe it was Maynard's body spinning like a frisbee in a counter clockwise direction towards Gus's head.

    Yep, sure they'll close the loophole over the off season. They fully realise it's leaving them wide open to future litigation. They've already achieved their short-term goal: of making it more likely the Filth get into a Grand Final and the AFL knobs get their bonuses.

    Yes, he did.  The worst was his attempt to get him off some boards, not only the Olympic Park Trust, but the Parks Victoria board.  Uncle Alan is one of the most calm, reasonable, professional, intelligent person out there, that scum doesn't hold a candle to him.  I remember Dad asking him what's it like trying to reason with McGuire, the response Uncle Alan got was "Like trying to reason with petulant child who's been told he can't have a lollipop".  Apt description of him.

     I got a text later that night from Danielle (Frawley, Brayshaw’s fiancee) that I picked the wrong vase.

    I'm guess the text said wrong Bowl "toilet" not Vase.

      From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

      Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

    • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

      The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
