David Zita on Fox Footy all but confirmed that the Brisbane prelim will be on the Saturday. Probably twilight.

Interestingly Port or GWS will cop a 6 day break into a prelim, as Collingwood did in 2018.

As much as we canโ€™t stand Collingwood, theyโ€™ve earned the reward of getting the extra days break into the Gf if successful.

Brisbane pf will be twilight to allow hopefully Dee's to fly home that evening before airport curfew.

They'll do it for Gus mate.

I hope so, although I wish they did it for Gus against the Pies since it was one of them who knocked him out. And now itโ€™s a much harder run when it didnโ€™t have to be.ย

It's pretty unfair.

If Port wins next week, they'll be the higher ranked SF winner whether we or Carlton win, yet we/Carlton will get the "better" break into our prelim than they will.

But at the same time, you should reward and incentivise the minor premier by giving them that extra days break into the GF if good enough.

I don't for a second believe we can't beat Brisbane in the prelim. It's clearly a much harder path to the GF than a home prelim against Port/GWS, and for that reason I'm of the view the loss to Collingwood renders our flag chance much, much lower than they'd be if we'd won, but I don't accept that Brisbane belting Port means they can't be beaten.

If we beat Carlton, we'll go to Brisbane with all the pressure on them. The last time they hosted a prelim in similar circumstances was 2020, and they choked and lost to Geelong. This is their 5th-straight deep run into September and they are yet to make a Grand Final, let alone win a flag. We'll be playing as the clear underdog for one of the rare occasions in the last three seasons and I like it like that.

But right now I don't care about Brisbane, I care about Carlton.ย

A good summary and our flag standard defence will be intact.ย  ย Lions will be tested by us if we get there

There is no way that 2/3rds of the team go missing again next Friday RBM.

Even with 2 to 3 players having an off night we'll win well against the baggers....PROVIDED...

Goodwin reads a bit of a riot act to the bulk of those that didnt show up against the Pies in the review sessions.

Unacceptable peformences from too many on Thurs night.

3 shocking finals performances in a row.

Time for Simon to bring down the hammer!!

If we get past Carlton next week, Brisbane at the gabba looks a bridge too far. Weโ€™ve performed far better at Adelaide oval so was hoping Port might get up tonight, but Lions are an offensive juggernaut up there. Itโ€™s a real tough path for us now

I've had one straight Russell reserve single barrel bourbon on the rocks (the only way!) and the rest .... Chivas Regal 12 YOs with coke (acceptable fair for that quality i feel!??)

That followed by a side 1 chaser of the 1978 Cars first LP (at about 60% of hi fi system's capable volume) which i just purchased after having to throw out my original.ย  The original wrecked from 100s of spins when i first purchased in the 80s. Mostly due to overplaying it with a cooked gold ring stylus haha

GWS look like theyโ€™re the most in form team and the most โ€˜ready for finals at the Gโ€™ type team.

I reckon theyโ€™ll beat Port next week and have a very similar game plan to the Pies. Will be tough for them to beat the pies but if they make the granny and theyโ€™re playing the Lions, I think theyโ€™ll beat them.ย

I watched them in a lot of games during the season and deadset, Kingsley has primed them to be a finals team. They finished way lower on the ladder than they should have by losing games early in the season to the Bombers, Tigers and EAGLES.ย

I hope they do to be perfectly candid and not at all for selfish reasons.ย

If we get over the Blues, I believe we can beat the Lions in Brisbane. ย Whether it was nerves they didn't start well and got on top of a port side starting too slow by kicking worse than us for the first qtr. ย  But we need to win Friday first.ย

Whether they were good or not their forward line only needs to flex their muscles to put serious points on the board.ย

Yep H&A Port were very good.

This is finals though and Port have been choked for a long time now and tonight was no exception.

GWS have a head of steam and nothing to lose as there were many in the media that wrote them off at the beginning of the season. Port on the other hand, have had the question mark 'can they produce in finals' for many years.

I would be much more nervous if I was a Port fan than if I was a (non-existent) GWS fan.

Brisbane and Port was like a regular season game. Bugger all finals pressure and cheapie goals.

Yup. Brisbane have no excuse not to win their prelim.ย
ย

Easy 1st final, virtually unscathed and no injuries.ย
ย

Probably their final chance to win a flag also. Too many young teams on the up and this is as good a shape as theyโ€™ll be in to have a tilt.ย

I think the point of the previous post was to suggest the Brisbane v Port games didn't have finals intensity, so when Brisbane come up against us (hopefully) in the PF, they won't have adjusted to the pressure

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
