Not really a good idea to rest players vs Swans even if top 4 is sewn up, that’s 2 weeks off and win your first final and come prelim it’s 1 game in a month

I'd like to agree on handleable but sometimes it just isn't and I won't be tolerating any of it or wasting my free time in it.

Maybe but in overseas sports, it's common practice especially in soccer

These days, the best are just plug in and play and whilst not playing, they'd be simulating all the footy stuff without the contact

A bit like the riders in le tour where they still ride a fair bit on the rest days

Our season of footy is now a marathon in terms of the amount of running involved so any rest can be beneficial.  QF winners more often than not win the PF

And in the Smith era as a player & coach, I believe we won 7 or 8 of the 10 flags whilst having 2 full weekends off in September ... more importantly having fresh legs against tired legs

6 or 7 years ago I would have been concerned about coming out rusty but I've bought into modern methods

Any idea how they do this? I sat near the boundary for the first time in years last night and the abuse was wild. I know we did some chant stuff before we paid Collingwood, but I’d be fascinated to know how they prepare for that noise and abuse if anyone knows.

I think they should partner with a university to develop something that is able to detect the faintest of touches. Perhaps it’s not possible.

The easiest thing is to allow a goal and then overrule if there is sufficient evidence and not the other way around. Give the attacking the the benefit of doubt.

Next time I go I'll be spending more time in the valley for sure.

The boat cruise we did from Barracks was amazing but we really raced through the 2 Wineries and 1 Brewery that day.

I saw a segment on this a few years ago (can't remember which club it was) but players wore headphones that had recordings of a few grand final crowds on an extended loop.

Anyone had Pepperjack Mid-Strength Shiraz? 

Instead of Kingy on the First Crack talking about Max Gawns influence being the difference to our W-L record, maybe he should delve a little deeper and have a look at the treatment he receives in the games where his influence is nullified.

He is being constantly blocked off the ball and being held held in marking contests on our dump kicks down the line.  This has direct correlation to his lack of influence in our losses.  It would be great if they were to highlight that once in a while.

The way I’ve heard what they are currently attempting to develop (and this was discussed by football journos, so take that for what it’s worth) is that it’s essentially 2 data points tracked at either end of the ball. The theory being that they then can measure the rotation of the ball through the time it could have come into contact with a player and evaluate if the trajectory shifts at all off the expected path. I imagine it’s similar to the ball path technology they use in the DRS for the cricket.

So, if I understand it correctly, last night they would have been able to see if the ball deviated less than .01% of its expected path in the time it could have come in contact with a hand. 

If they get it right it’ll be a huge improvement. I also imagine it’ll help predict where the ball is when it travels high and the goal umpire asks to check - and all we have is vision from a camera 200 metres away at a weird angle.

2 wineries and 1 brewery is pretty standard fare here in Perf. If you’re not totally munted after all that opportunity then you’re just a rank amateur mate 😂.

THE PETRACCA GOAL

Can anyone clear up for me three things:-

The first pertains to why the AFL official last two minutes of the game on Youtube now does NOT include all of the last two minutes. It is in fact abridged to not include viewing of  how long the conversation was between the goal umpire and the Field umpire No 23 after Petracca had kicked the winning goal. What is there to hide by not including this very important part, and actually how long they spoke for?

Secondly, from what could be seen from the fence side behind the goal area it is apparent to some that there was more words spoken than just what was understood to have been said. Do others understand this to be the case? Why was that?

Third of course we have the situation that there is only one angle of viewing that has been shown to the public. Why?

But it is not just Max being blocked. I have noticed a marked increase in a marking competition, our players are constantly blocked off the ball and another opposition players moves in and takes the mark. The umpires never pay the free. I'm presuming that they have to be a certain meterage away from the incoming ball before a free will be paid. If it is allowable why don't our boys do the same thing.  Can someone who knows the rules better than me clear this up for me. What is allowable blocking??
