Might be a trick of the camera but Jefferson looks like he's put a bit of weight on in his upper body in particular.

I thought he had some lower half bulk too, not skinny though the hips which will be good.

Thought I could see some development happening for the AFL listed. Jefferson finding good positions, Adams looking stronger, Verrall getting some involvement, Deakin.S playing well, Sestan, though not much involvement is looking fit, running out the game and looks like he has improved his skin folds.

Spargo and Dunstan played well.

Harmes, I wish he wouldn't play himself or others into trouble.

Dursma can take a mark. Edwards looks composed, moves well, gets involved.

Grundy nearly, though for a big paid, player should be dominating at VFL level. Started taking his marks in the 4th.

Watching him closely last few weeks I think he’s going to be someone Special in the future

He has his own way of going about the game and continues to surprise each week as his confidence grows

Agree. Matthew Jefferson on recent showings has something of the 'Basketball Jones' about him. Terrific judgement aerially, an elite kicking action, growing confidence physically, plus some 'magic' when the ball hits the deck.

Postscript; Liked  Deakyn Smith's game too, has a nice mix of silky skills, physicality and is getting his hands on the ball more frequently this season.

So to sum up what did Grundy do? Did he kick a goal or do anything positive forward?

Not a lot. Missed an easy running snap from less than 10m out, made a serious play-on blunder in last that almost was turned over for goal. Think he kicked 1 goal 3 b

Just give Dunstan a chance for god’s sake. What more does he need to do? He’ll make our side better. It’s not a question of ‘who does he replace’, he should just be in the side.

I saw bits and pieces, like other VFL games, this season. It’s too cluttered and congested for forwards such as Grundy to have any chance of standing out. BBB had this issue too. I’m not sure this plan will help, I think it’s either (a) we keep playing him in the ones in the role he was playing; (b) he learns his ‘forward craft’ in the ones; or (c) we leave him at Casey for the rest of the season unless Gawn goes down.

I didn't watch the whole thing but the one thing he did that I think is realistic for his skillset and physical attributes was where he crashed a pack and roved the crumb, dished it off to a more skilled distributor who laced out a real forward.

I think that's the best we can hope to get from Grundy in the forward line at the moment.

Duursma is going to be a gun.

Can someone please elaborate on Duursma - size, position, “plays like…”.
Thanks

We’ve only played him 1 game. We really should have given him more given time how much we’ve let JVR coast at AFL level.

IMO JVR isn’t being allowed to coast - he certainly is on a learning curve but does contribute well beyond what shows on basic stats sheets.

As an aside, is Jefferson looking like something to look forward to in 2024?   IF he and JVR both develop together could we have a gun tall forward pairing?

Dursmaa is a lot like his brother. Other comparisons are Shaun Burgoyne.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
