🥳 Langers to play his 150th on Sunday! 🥳

The graphic has four images of Ed and in every one of them his tongue is sticking out. 😝😝😝😝

Better the interviewer, the better the question, the better the answer.

Unfortunately, interviewing skills are completely absent within the AFL media landscape. All they want is short one liners to use as headlines and click bait. Half the time they don't even ask questions. They just say something and stick a mic in front of the interviewee.

It's an embarrassment and a great shame really. Post game presser questioning is almost comical. It's as if they choose people off the street to do the questioning.

That would’ve been cool but we only celebrate total number of AFL games. Melks got his 200th game banner last year for which he was very grateful. Some players show their appreciation more than others.  Langers is also particularly grateful for things like this. So we all stood on the graphic (very small crew tonight) and were filmed yelling out, “Go Eddy! The Demon Army love you!” We know he’ll love it. ❤️💙

This is a real danger game. Nicholls is one of the umpires.

I hope Williamson is at least having a well deserved rest. In hell.

Right! Take a look at Garry Lion’s interview of Cripps. He might have talked more than Cripps.

And what’s with interviewers asking questions and providing at least two alternative answers for the interviewee, who invariably decides that “it’s a both of both, really”?

So true FD more a guidance than an interview, it’s like watching the news people read the news, no one ever questions the rubbish that they are reading , even when you know it’s [censored] they never question it. Where have the real journalists gone, so bland so insufferable mind numbing don’t rock the boat rubbish.!!!

But I always struggle when trying to recall any sports-related interview that gave me something resembling genuine insight, and wasn’t just guarded, predictable musings from the same old script.

Agree with your post.

Two exceptions are Andy's interviews on this site (e.g., May, Grundy, Selwyn) and Peter Donegan's "This is your sporting life" segment that made everyone seem fascinating.

Inters: Melksham, Jordan, Rivers, Smith, sub Chandler, no one else from squad deserves a game!

Players have to have a life outside of football. Their mental health is just as important as their physical wellbeing.

Some of my mates seem to find golf bad for their mental health: on the other hand I just say stuff the score and relax and enjoy it.  Though I cannot envisage Stephen May (who is according to himself MFC’s lowest handicap player around 6 I think) doing anything short of taking it very seriously.

All you need to know about the state of football journalism #2

So i decided to listen to the SEN Sanderson strategy slot on catch up.

First topic for discussion - Brodie Grundy.

Whateley played goodies answer to the the first question of the presser, which is about Grundy.

Goody notes the hysteria (his word) in the media and that Brodie will be back.

Chief hysteric, Whateley, doesn't bother defending the completely reasonable charge of hysteria.

And Sanderson basically disregards what he has just heard from the lips of Goody and says Grundy unlikely to return to the ones this season. I mean the senior coach had just said he will be back for pete's sake.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to say at least something like, well Goody was adamant he would be back, but i have my doubts?

5 more mins wasted on rubbish - remembering this is a segment supposedly about strategy.

They eventually get to the game and it is all about the Lions. Sanderson's take is they got on top becuase they beat us in the contest and clearances. That's it. That's where the analysis largely ends. And then goes on to say how good he thinks the Lions are and that they a real 'smokey' to win the flag (some smokey - they are third fav)

No respect for the dees effort to come back from 5 goals to win - the lions went too defensive apparently.

No talk about what we did to wrest momentum back - other than we won contested ball.

Fair dinkum, this is supposed to pass as analysis?

binman - stay away from mainstream media.
There is a podcast that I can highly recommend that is often  true and accurate, with absolutely no 🐂💩- Demonland I think is the name. Some of the presenters actually seem quite intelligent 🤗🙄❤️💙❤️💙

Likewise. Looking good! Crawley on fire. 197-2, only 120 behind. Need to get a decent lead tonight given the rubbish weather predicted over the weekend.

Yeah probably not but I could take it or leave it to be honest

Melksham, Jordan, Rivers and Laurie on the bench with Smith a Sub for me.

I would like to see a more aggressive use of the sub. if a player is down then sub him out sooner rather than later. I know that you run the risk of an injury coming and then being one man down on the rotations but, if a player is clearly not performing then you are already handicapping yourself by not using the sub early.

A shout out to Ed's mum Belinda. I was on a swim trip on Croatia in 2018 that she was part of.

Here's my fb post at the time:

"So the conversation with Belinda (from Sth Yarra) over dinner the other night went something like this:
Me: do you follow the AFL Belinda?
Belinda: yes. Actually both of my sons are in the AFL
Me: Oh yeah. What's their names?
Belinda: Ed and Tom Langdon.
Me: I've heard of Ed. He plays with Freo and goes alright. There's talk he may head back to Vic. when his contract expires. I'd like to see him at the Dees. I bet you'd rather see him at Melbourne rather than with some club like those ferals at Collingwood? Who's Tom play with.
Belinda: Tom plays for the Collingwood ferals.

I must have said something to upset Belinda. She hasn't spoken to me since that dinner."

PS I was aware that Tom was a Pies player but had hardly played due to injuries. Murmers that we were looking at Ed.

Crows with some big outs, Obviously Laird is a huge out for them but I think Michaelanny has been unreal for them and him being managed is good news, with Rachele out we can't let Rankine or Tex get loose.

Put Bowey forward and Hibbo in his normal position

I loved Peter Donegan's interview style. One of my inspirations in the small number of interview situations I've been part of

And I thought Goody's selections were baffling on occasion.

Love how Warner keeps "telling" the selectors how he will retire in Oz.

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
