We were taking the banner up the race ready to raise it. I was carrying a ‘grounding plate’ one of the two metal plates that spike into the turf into which the giant banner pole is inserted. This thing weighs a tonne and is very unwieldy. We never go onto the ground until every player has left the field after warmups. We were stopped at the top of the race and were told there was a player still on the field so we had to wait. That player was Melksy. Choco was directing him where to take set shots from and watching him intently. A couple of my comrades were antsy coz time limits and extremely heavy gear. Despite my arms and back screaming blue murder, I turned to one comrade and said, “All good, we don’t wanna rush Melksy. Him nailing his set shots tonight really matters.” My comrade did point out that I was just saying that because it was Melks, and he’s probably right, but I’m claiming it. I’m taking the credit.

Y’all are welcome 😂

exit: also saw Chin and Brodie pregame in the race with some trainers. They were all in really good spirits. I yelled out “hey Chin!” and he laughed and waved and said, “hey! How’re goin?” The mood was awesome.

What was the deal with the Fitzroy run through WCW? Particularly the back side. It looked like a 5 year old kids school project.

It’s fair to say I will never ever forget this game.

We had absolutely lost that game, until we won it.

Melk’s mark and goal was immense.

Signing up Remi as soon as I finish reading some of the threads here - she’ll be a Demon for life.

Welcome to the world, new little Demon Remi.

Anyone else having problems watching the replay on kayo today? Every time I try and fast forward through the breaks it sticks and won't reload. It's doing my head in.

Congrats Ron!

I hope for Remi’s sake (and mine) she spends her whole life with people asking if she just became a Demons fans because they win all the time.

They were out on there feet in the last qtr the lion cubs, pressure dropped right off.

Would loved to have seen the pressure meter in the 2nd,3rd and 4th qtr drop off.

We absolutely ran them off their feet in the last, huge win without Clarry and Fritta HUGE!

George no doubt will share the pressure numbers with us on the podcast - looking forward to it as always, even more so after such a sterling fightback.

Lots of talk about the final bit of play between Lever and hipwood. Clearly it was Levers mark and even JB called it straight away.

It looked as if Hipwood thought he had the ball under his arm, when it was actually Lever's head.  So, Lever's mark, or Lever's free.  Either way, game over.

Disagree, Goodwin keeping Petty on nearly cost us the game. Be very clear the players win this game not the coaches.  I have been a consistent Melksham detractor as he consistently goes missing. The perfect sub imo

Keeping Petty on was weird but I don’t think Melksham is best as a sub. The only one you’d drop him out of the 22 for now is Fritsch imo, his body work last night was great, plays tall and can kick. Smith worked well as a sub although it was making me nervous ahead of time.

Grundy may take either of JVR or BBBs spots, but I’d have those two ahead of him as pure forwards. Although BBB wasn’t as prominent after a good first quarter he still leads and makes space for the others.

Chandler or Spargo competing for the same spot, I don’t think ANB or Kozzie are droppable.

Forward line continues to improve which has been my big worry, and the Lions game was the biggest pre-finals test. Should just roll the rest of the teams we play pretty comfortably now, hopefully avoid further injuries, get Clarry back with 3-4 games before finals and see how we go.

This drives me nuts too. The MCG staff are so poor at letting people sit wherever they want. Last night Brisbane fans just walked into our reserved seat section and sat where they wanted.

If you pay $600 for a seat to see what amounts to 10 games the least the MCG staff can do is protect the value the club places on the seats. It’s literally their only job.

Please go up to the staff and report people drinking or sitting in reserved areas without the proper ticket!

I'm with you many time there have been more opposition fans than Dees in these areas. I know it impossible to stop members giving their tickets away for the day but maybe just a dress code would help. ie no opposition jumpers in these areas. When I went to the Kings Birthday game the lady on the gate said thank for showing me your membership you are the only one who has. That stopped me in my tracks as I thought that was her job.

I've been critical of his ball use this year, but I disagree with the calls for Rivers to play midfield. He needs to play half back. He had some genuinely special moments in that game.

Likewise, I've been critical of Gus this year, but he was terrific last night. I think our mids match up really well on Brisbane's mids. We're too big and strong for them, and aside from Bailey, they don't have burst from stoppages, so are quite one dimensional unless they can involve their half backs.

And lots to work with from our perspective, not to mention huge belief, which could well set us on our way now, but we need to make sure our team defence is way better than last night. Our inability to stop defensive chains turning into scores (particularly in the 3rd) was worrying, but fixable.

I don't expect us to be running on top of the ground until Round 20ish, so I'm hoping we revert to pushing Adelaide wide next week and then hitting them on slingshot.

I'm listening to the Pies v Freo game and I can't help but wonder if Luke Jackson had his time again, whether he'd still be with us? I know, cash, friends etc.

I was surprised when the siren rang ... only 27 minutes where as one quarter went for 34 minutes and another went 32 minutes

Only 5 goals scored in the last quarter explains the difference but the mind was thinking 30+ minutes

With the last moment involving a disputed mark to add to the high drama

at the game the clock showed 30 minutes

I’ve absolutely loved Trac and Melksham up forward the last couple of weeks.

Also think Kozzie is so much better running on the ball from higher up the ground than sitting in the forward pocket.

The talls still need work though as I don’t think JVR is quite there yet.

Brown works hard but can’t take a contested mark

We may yet see Grundy back up forward or even TMac if he can get fit.

Still have Fritter up our sleeve for finals

Are you sure? The last time I looked it hadn't ticked over to the 27 minute mark

Unfortunately Gawn can only play his best football by being the main ruckman with a chop out

May not necessarily be a bad thing.

But the Make Some Noise lady is a hoot, she will approach the oppo fans and ask if they have a ticket for the seat. When they can’t provide a ticket she kicks them out and if they refuse she then calls security.

Why?

Division is hurting this world.

Let's all just get along.

Buying your way into separation, wow. Like the lotus flower, growing out of the muck, and believing the muck isn't there. An illusion that some believe membership can solve.

Personally I like both sides of a debate.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
