Only downside of Adelaide losing is Essendon keeping their spot in the 8

Totally agree. I wanted Essendon out of the 8. Adelaide will rue that loss. A couple of weeks ago they were being talked up about a possible top 4. Now they've dropped

People were chearing for the Giants because Adelaide had a much better percentage than GWS. Basically impossible to see how GWS will end with a better percentage than Melbourne, whereas Adelaide there is some (remote) chance. Also, if Adelaide beat Melbourne it will be positive for Adelaide's percentage, negative for Melbourne's which will tighten things up, and it will be an 8-point game.

Geelong may well give Brisvegas a touch up next week. If we beat Adelaide then staying in the four becomes more Brisbane's problem.

I wanted Essendon to beat Geelong because there was more chance of G finishing ahead of Melbourne than Essendon because of that undeserved draw against the Swans. Having said that, if Geelong was going to win I'm glad it was a big win as they've seriously damaged Essendon's already poor percentage. Geelong's percentage is irrelevant to Melbourne.

Don't understand this thinking. We want Essendon in  the Final 8 because they're less of a threat than GWS, Carlton, Adelaide, Gold Coast (possibly), Sydney & Richmond.

If we can’t beat any of those teams in September on the G then we don’t deserve to be in the same room as the cup.

We shouldn’t be worried about playing any team. You can’t Bradbury a whole season and finals series.

Wrecked

A fantastic win by GWS tonight. I love everything about this side (except of course when they beat Melbourne). Others have posted that Adelaide winning would have been good because after a loss they'll suddenly be wound up and come to play next week. I see it the other way. If anything a loss at home is going to deflate them and demotivate them. In reality they'll come to play regardless of tonight's result and the loss will make it virtually impossible for them to overtake Melbourne even if they win next week.

I agree. I wasn't saying we should fear any of those teams. I was  responding to the proposition that somehow it would have been better for Adelaide to beat GWS just to keep Essendon out of the 8 with 6 rounds to go. My thoughts about teams winning and losing are based on what's better for Melbourne's prospects, not hatred for other individual teams.

Can’t Hogan kick 45?

He can barely kick it further than Spargo.

St Kilda and the Dogs are slowly sliding into nothingness and opening the door for Carlton, GWS and potentially Richmond to try to steal their spots. Adelaide has had a golden chance the past two weeks to solidify their top 8 (or even top 6) spot but have now put themselves in a terrible position.

I just hate them and want them, Brad Scott and there supporters to have a miserable season

I only wanted GWS to win in regards to the Freo pick. A win to GWS keeps Freo firmly down the ladder. Having said that they're doing a good job of that themselves.

Not surprised. He was either turning it over or dropping the most basic of marks.

A seriously frustrating player for a guy of his talents.

And when he takes a mark he often misses the kick as he did with us.

the point was meant to be, by the end of the season, we could have 5-13 all with 12 wins...

And with their draw, largely irrelevant in any case.

And it was a super contested, tough game. Bit of recovery needed for the crows.

One less day break and travel doesn't help their cause  either.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #32 Tom Sparrow

The rugged Sparrow’s career appears to have plateaued in recent years. He makes the side on a week to week basis but he is unable to establish a foothold in the team’s midfield and arguably performs best outside of the contest in a forward position without being a goal kicker. He remains a good honest foot soldier but is not a star.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #33 Tom Fullarton

Fullarton managed a couple of games in the first half of the season but soon found himself back in the VFL. There, he found a niche at centre half back but it was not enough to retain a place on the list at season’s end.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #35 Harrison Petty

Entering 2025, it looked as if Petty would be secured in a defensive position, but plans shifted and he spent more time forward, averaging just over a goal per game throughout the season. It remains uncertain which area of the ground he will be expected to cover under the new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The dynamic small forward, possessing an innate ability to generate excitement with his explosive play around the goals, successfully transitioned into a role that afforded him more time in the midfield. The club also negotiated a long-term deal with Pickett, thereby eliminating any prospect of a move west by their star young player.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #37 Kade Chandler

For a few years now, he has been a reliable, hard working pressure forward, but in 2025, Chandler elevated his performance, becoming an integral component of the team with enough versatility to play effectively on a wing from time to time.
