For those who have the entire fixture in their heads, whom should I barrack for between Essendon and Cats?  (Assuming I hate them both and fear Geelong a bit more in the finals)

Even if they lose today they could only lose 2 more (Geelong and Collingwood). Unless they drop another and we win all our games we can’t mathematically catch them.

Agree

Assuming Port lose today

We'd need to win 6 and they'd need to lose 3

Won't happen

Mind you Port also have the game against Adelaide ??

A draw would be almost perfect

Port got cocky resting so many players this week.
They’ve gone hard early in the season because Hinkley is under so much pressure. But the reality is, it could come back and bite them. July premiers do not September premiers make.

Gee I’d love to play Port on Grand Final day at the G

Well after we smash the Pies in a QF who will be our Prelim opponent?

Essendon have a very soft draw.

Correct.
Geelong still have to play Brisbane in Brisbane, Port and Pies. If they’re to overtake us we need to lose 2-3 more games and realistically they have to win every game.

Port could easily lose the next four:

Carlton - doesn't look good

Collingwood

Adelaide

Geelong - at Deliveranceville

Cats, then we’d be 2 games clear of 5th.

I can't believe I am enjoying watching Carlton serve it up to Port. They are doing to Port what we did to the Pies - crowding their wide-playing ball carriers and making them accountable. Pressure really works.

hedge your bets and just barrack for the draw.

Carlton fans call insufficient intent for any ball that goes out of bounds.

I don't blame them.  The current stupid and inconsistent  'interpretation' is a lottery and you have to buy a ticket to win.

Port Adelaide showed arrogance and disrespect by dropping seven players in their match with Carlton.

They might find that their previous good form is not so easy to switch back on.

I hope Carlton gives them a hiding. Furthermore they deserve to be punished for imposing  that dreadful dirge about being alone.

At Marvel Stadium now, the Blues are looking like 4 strong wins on the trot ...

They’ve beaten Gold Coast, Freo and Hawks. Let’s calm down.
This is a good win, but Port absolutely cocky to drop this many players for a rest and think they’ll waltz it in. Rubbish call.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
