Is there any chance we name Schache as the sub? Strong VFL form and can play both ends. If BBB is off, he can replace him. If we lose a key back he can cover there. If Max is struggling, we can sub a small and he can ruck. I know we have more often than not gone for the ‘utility type’ as sub, but l feel we have enough mids to cover spots. I’d at least consider it

Nope, no chance. He's not named as an emergency.

FWIW, Grundy, Dunstan, Smith and Chandler are the emergencies.

First game with BBB and JVR together? Interested to see how they work together.

Actually played together round 3 -  50 point win against the Swans!!!

(Brown was subbed out at half time injured but you can forget I told you that)

SPARGO ???? SPARE ME ! Not up to it and never will be!

Except that year he was a regular in the 22 that we won a premiership, or when he lead the league in effective kicks inside 50 the year after

Picket, sometimes you have more bias than a lawn bowl.

The guys is a 🤡 screams for Brown to come in because JVR isn’t up to it. Brown has a poor game against GWS, calls for him to be dropped for JVR or Jefferson.

JVR comes in this week still moaning. Bags Spargo for years because you know if it ain’t obvious PF ain’t going to see what he brings, then retracts midway through 22(yes literally it took him that long to see it) only to change his mind again.

The bloke is deadset clueless.

But hey no matter what happens tomorrow if we lose, it will be because Grundy wasn’t selected

I would pay good money to watch Hunter ruck 😂

I do not buy that Grundy accepts being dropped and vfl time next few weeks. Something smells here  very strange but if it works  ok. Bit strange

I interpreted his quote to mean him saying we hadn't had 3 10 day breaks in a row before, which is true.

We also had three 10 day breaks in 2022 between rounds 13 and 16.

The difference is that in 2022 we were blindsided by the late schedule release so had no chance to tailor our training accordingly.

I've mentioned before it is no coincidence the AFL released the 2023 fixture to the end of round 15 ie after all the byes were finished.

So its fair to say Grundy is not being 'managed' for fatigue or loads, he has been 'dropped' and would be playing at Casey this week if they didn't have a bye.

Yes because Alan Richardson said he was to go back and learn forward craft at Casey in the VFL.

I wonder if anyone has the stats on how many 29 year old, famously poor forward players, have learned to be better forwards in the VFL?

Chandler and Dunstan were horrendous in the VFL..I guess it’ll be Smith again

Dunstan was VG in patches but generally 'ok' for three quarters.  Last quarter was very sloppy and dropped away.  Defensively he probably doesn't get to the level that might see him picked (at least in this particular Casey game...not talking generally here).  He might still be recovering from his knee issue somewhat which might be limiting his ability to cover ground (speculation).

He still managed 24 disposals with some VG distribution by hand, a few of which resulted in a goal.  One worth noting in particular was at the 8 minute mark (approx) of the second.  A magnificent forward HB in congestion where he hit up Chandler 8 to 10 meters over the top who then spotted up Schache for an easy joe-the-goose goal.

Having said that, he then turned the ball over a couple of times in the last with poor handballs, a dropped mark from a hospital short pass from a kick in which eventually resulted in a turnover goal and was generally not at the level of his fiirst three quarters (which were ok).

Some may interpret this as a poor result (not my interpretation) vs an ok game (my assessment on the day).

Chandler worked his behind off all game.  Got first use on a few occasions in and under with extractions that resulted in at least two clearances and three scoring chaines.  Namely the two goals to Edwards and the one to  Schache above.

I guess a stats guy would classify those as 2 clearances & 3 score involvements?

Also had 19 disposals and 4 tackles but failed to hit the scoreboard again for the 5th game running if you include AFL results.  In total scoring only 7 behinds in 5 matches.

The last time he kicked a goal was Rnd 11 vs the Power with 1.1

I would argue he was outpointed in a 'genuine small forward' sense (ie;  crumbing, opportunistic goal kicking and pressure (tackling) by Moniz.

While Moniz had less disposals (11), and was quieter in a general sense than his outstanding performance the week before (and quieter than Chandler in a  general play sense), he still managed to lay 7 tackles and kick 2 snap goals.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
