It may not affect list management, but don’t believe for a second that it’s not being read by anyone other than us. Coz it is. Just sayin’

I was amused recently to see there are 280 Guests reading DL and 59 members.  That ratio is quite typical.

And I don't doubt the club has staff whose job it is to read DL: to judge the mood at times.  But I doubt it would affect the FD.

Not sure what they would make of the comments in the game day threads 🙄

🙂They might stay clear of that one and preserve their sanity.

Or be like me and read it only up to the first bounce.

True. But when @Demon Dynasty says “just DL banter & a bit of fun…” he’s right, but it’s certainly not a case of what happens on DL stays on DL. The Club monitors these things, and some may think it silly of me to say this but who knows… quite possibly some DL content may be taken onboard for consideration in decision making.

It’s the postgame thread that I hope they steer clear of. Especially the first page, after a loss. That’s some crazy [censored] right there.

I have often wondered about this Luci.

Is it likely that many/most of those "guests" are in fact D'landers who have not logged in or simply wish to read anonymously?

My question re Watson is do we want another 170cm mid/forward? I’d like to recruit 2x 196cm fast outside mid with good skills and trade in a key forward. You gotta keep adding elite mods.

So in other words, you’d like to get in 2x Bontempelli types? hold on Bonts only listed as 192cm & not really considered fast… & plays more inside.

How bout someone like Crippa? 195cm… but [censored] he also plays more inside… & kicking skills aren’t the greatest.

ughhh

Yeah good luck with that, roost👍(respectfully)

Elite talent is what we need, regardless of their size. But yes, a key forward would be nice.

It would have no effect on football department decisions whatsoever and nor should it.

I for one am concerned that our drafting strategy is now too focused on whether players share a name with a former President of the USA. It is almost compulsory if you are over 195cm.

Jefferson, Adams (x2), Jackson, Van Buren, and even two Harrisons if you're willing to stretch.

So, I guess we'll be taking Darcy Wilson with our first selection, given he's the only eligible player in the 2023 group.

Maybe I was asking too much. I’ll take Zane Duursma and Larkey from North

I was looking at our younger brigade.  We have a nice balance with all roles covered but I think we do lack star power there and that needs to be the focus of our drafting, trading and FA.  We don't need more "good" young players, we need some stars.

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/tp-melbourne-demons

There's an age gap between Schache at 25y9m and Petty at 23y6m, we happen to have 22 listed players including Petty and younger:

B: McVee Adams D.Turner
HB: Bowey Petty D.Smith
R: Verrall Sparrow Rivers
C: Woewodin Jordon Howes
HF: Spargo VanRooyen Chandler
F: Sestan Jefferson Pickett
I: K.Turner Faris-White Laurie Monis-Wakefield

it is a good side.... gee is would win a few games. You are right - 1 or 2 absolute stars in there will really help. There ar ea lot of very good players and projected really good players in that side, but there isn't an Oliver, Gawn, May, Lever, Petracca yet....yet.

Absent Naughton, Larkey would be an amazing get. Dude kicks bags, kicks straight and takes marks.

He'd probably leave 500k on the table contract wise over the next 4 years coming to us, but he'd win about 40 more games and presumably get to play finals.  He's contracted but if the approach was made he'd be crazy not to consider it.  It can't be that much fun at Norf surely.  Probably have to give up a 1st rounder plus decent change.  I like JVR but unless he starts taking more marks per game he's not the droid we are looking for.

A friend asked me the same question about our list last night. In my opinion, our list is pretty good but the one player we lack is a Pendlebury clone. He is always composed, moves through traffic hits targets and directs traffic. Consider playing up forward to Pendlebury's delivery. He doesn't bomb it on your head to the left-hand pocket. He kicks it so that it draws the forward to the ball. He is also a ball carrier running off half-back and hitting targets.

Last week we dropped intersect marks and couldn't hit a target coming off half-back turning the ball over continually.

Not a list problem but who on the list can rise to this role?

Didn’t know you worked in our FD. Coz you do, right? I mean, why else would you be so sure?

Judd Mcvee with 2 pre seasons and 7kgs.  Left field says hi. 👋

Love that

McVee's composure and decision making is perhaps up there with Salem...difference being McVee actually has pace. I'm surprised people aren't more bullish on him, I think he's a high level talent

Pendlebury is an all time great. Generational player. But who on the list has attitributes of evasion in traffic,  knowing his exit option before hes got the ball and hitting them at 78 percent efficient. Ive watched Mcvee closely this year. These are his traits. If theres someone else on our list, i havent seen it.

Anything's possible WCW.  I'm simply referring to the Coach/FD & Players though.

Not saying some mood aspects don't  incidently filter back if there's the odd connection on a forum with a player/club official.  Some do love a bit of gossip at the end of the day.

Feels plausible, along with monitoring of some other online forums to some degree.

So am I 😉

so we are a lil exposed in my view

we have no back up ruckman in training

we dont really have a creditable KPF and we have no replacement for May as yet

No replacement for Oliver or Petracca that I can see

The list looks and feels hollow

We’ve got great draft picks this year, we’ve also got guys likely leaving for new homes or retirement. Our issues are all manageable atm.

Hang on! We have at least 5 very good years left from Petracca and Oliver.

Petty is our replacement for May.

Premierships are often won without dominant ruckman, altho they do come in handy 😉

The club tried to trade up in recent drafts to get elite midfielders in Dursma, Holmes and Humphrey.  Couldn't get the pick swaps done to get high enough up the order.  Pipped at the post for Holmes when Geelong made a last minute 'live' pick swap.

We will land an elite midfielder sooner or later.  Fingers crossed we can trade up the order this year to get the younger Duursma.

Our list isn't and never will be perfect; nor will any other teams'.   But we have one of the very best right now.  Undoubtedly JT and TL are working on the future.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
