Apologies WCW, my intention of my post was not to infer that you or the numbers were wrong.
I was curious, so ran the calculations on the remainder and shared them.

I have heard those figures thrown around before

All good, FB. I come from a diehard Carlton family and most of my friends are Carlton. I didn’t join in our WhatsApp chat last night as I usually do during Carlton matches but when I did after the match there was a bunch of questionable stuff flying around. Apparently they won the grand final last night, and the Ashes, and they found a cure for cancer. 😁

The better Carlton does in his absence the more likely this becomes an option. I don't know whether he is open to leaving but he would make a massive difference to us.

Not sure how much correlation there is with Harry McKay being out and the Carlton foward line firing again. Jack Martin and David Cunningham both coming back from injury have injected unpredictability, extra aggression and pace for Carlton. Additionally, Jesse Motlop did a stint in the VFL and came back very much improved in terms of foward pressure and is starting to learn the art of being a proper small forward.

Mongrel Punt explained it perfectly 2 years ago. If McKay doesn’t kick goals he is a huge liability, and sometimes he’s a liability when he does kick goals.

I just wish our former number 2 can get his act together Just exactly what we need at the moment I think we need to give him some games maybe It is a mystery.

I would say that anslysis today is dated. Harry has been evolving as a footballer over the last few years. I watch all Carlton matches and Harry performs several roles for the Blues this season ... he sometimes pinch hits in the ruck, he is a defensive stopper on the wing and when he goes for a mark in that role he takes the mark 9 times out of 10. I think he has one of the highest contested mark counts in the AFL this season. His general field kicking is actually quite good and he is surprisingly quick for someone of his height. I don't think Carlton have any intention of off loading him. What do the Blues do if Charlie Curnow gets injured? If Geelong were able to make Cameron & Hawkins work last season I think Carlton can make Curnow & McKay work in the future too ...

The jungle drums are beating down at Royal Parade.

  1. Do we want Harry?

  2. If yes, what are we prepared to trade?

He's currently contracted to the end of '29 and there isn't much change from $1m per annum.

i would assume that the only way we could clear the salary space to secure mckay would be to trade one of oliver or petracca

i know of the three which two i would prefer to have

its clearly a salary dump so we'll take Harry and their first rounder ;)

The modern game calls for more small forwards.. They are too top heavy.

I think Carlton will sacrifice him for picks. They don’t have much good young talent and don’t look like competing so they have to try something.

I’d be tempted at the right price but not sure we have the picks to do the deal.

yeah, not sure that's necessarily true - they shuffled picks to have jagga smith from last year's draft (going the petracca approach of being a pick 3 who does his acl before starting his career), they have hawks' first rounder this year, i think, and then at the end of 2026 they'll have andrew walker's son, who is already regarded as a likely top 5 pick at the end of next year

i would suspect that, as such, they're likely to trade out of the 2026 draft and into the 2025 draft if they can - it's why a trade of harry mckay to the swans makes sense, as they will want to trade out of the 2025 draft (due to their range of young academy kids) and into 2026 / bring in a tall forward

if we put 2026 first rounder on the table and Blues coughed up $250K of his salary, then i think that would be a fair trade. Maybe throw in this years 2nd rounder for good measure.

I forgot about jagga

There’s a dearth of good picks available for the next 3-4 seasons

McKay could be a very good CHF if he does some serious work on his kicking, he would be a solid 2nd Ruck.

But he sure as hell aint worth a $ million Bucks a year.

Poor Carlscum have totally butchered their Playing list…they are the wost kicks in the League by a long way

Cripps getting 44 votes in the Brownlow, what an absolute joke, he is a solid player, but nowhere near that level.

Sam Walsh is cooked. He has the Back of a 60 year old.

Carlton are likely to win their next 4. Essendon, West Coast, North and Port. I wouldn't be writing them off just yet.

i agree with @Sir Why You Little - he looks like his back is cactus and he can barely move even when dosed up on painkillers

I’ve heard the “he’s cooked” about so many players who have then moved clubs and regained past form. To be honest above all I’d take Jackson. I reckon a mobile, strong marking ruck who can play forward would be ideal. It’s also a magnificent story and an up yours to Freo. It’s a win win win. Who doesn’t love a win win win?

I’d go after Sam Walsh. Get him fit and back on the outside and he’d be awesome for us.

Walsh is on $1m and I doubt we have that room in the cap and I am not sure he's worth it.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
