CASEY: Rd 09 vs North Melbourne

Featured Replies

After a week’s hiatus thanks to the bye, Casey returns home for what appears to be a danger game against an improving North Melbourne. Both teams will be affected by injuries and suspensions from their AFL affiliates.

No team details yet? I'm assuming the Melbourne emergencies (and even sub depending on playing time) will get back from Adelaide in time for thus match.

Not really. Plenty of flights on Saturday morning to get them to Casey on time. In the past they have been prepared to cut it pretty fine...but tomorrow wouldn't be a problem.

Usually emergencies will fly out tonight if they're not needed.

You're right but gee that's a stressful life for a player isn't it!

Agreed. Would need to fly back Saturday morning I'd assume which does leave it reasonably tight (1:20 flight, 30 minutes time difference, 1:15 from Airport to Casey Fields). Might have to get up pretty early in Adelaide but business travellers catch early flights all the time between Sydney, Melbourne & Adelaide.

I would assume that. Get the emergencies to Melbourne late tonight. e.g. there's a 9:10 Virgin flight.

Still no listed team on the AFL website. The games on in 24 hours!

Munro back ?

No idea. It's been a course of frustration for me that Casey's most important player has been out injured for some time and I have absolutely no idea of the nature of his injury, expected time for return etc. The reality is that because he's not a Melbourne-listed player the Club  clearly doesn't believe it's their responsibility to keep us informed. Is Casey part of the Melbourne set-up or not?

The only snippet I've heard on Munro was during the Casey coverage a few weeks ago.  I believe I heard one of the commentators mention that Jimmy had a 6 to 8 week calf injury. Can't recall exactly which game it was so I'm not inclined to go searching for it.

Yes its all pretty p!$$ poor from MFC.

Casey are pretty much ignored. There should be dedicated regular update on what's happening at Casey.

Its embarrassing that people get more information about Casey from Demonland than from MFC.

17 of the 23 are Melbourne-listed players. At least the Sub will be genuinely Casey! (plus probably one to come in for the Melbourne Sub). The team listing is still not on the AFL website.

probably a lot of it has to do with the afl reduction in the football dept soft cap

I've said it before but it's not in their interest to promote the VFL. Double the attendances to 2k and you need more toilets, attendants etc etc.

Ideally you could select say 4 grounds .. Vic Park, Port Melbourne etc etc and get them to 5k mini stadiums but until then thank heavens for the streaming coverage we now get.

It's a pity because it's a great product for those who want to watch high class football in a relaxed and informal setting

Notables playing for North - Cunnington, Tarryn Thomas, Lazzaro, K Turner, Bonar, Curtis Taylor.

So you know something about footy as well.
Who would have thought.

We need a dedicated Reserves comp and separate VFL, that isn't the hybrid mess of competing interests we have now.

We could have double header reserves games on Sundays at venues like Vic Park, Princes Park and other good metro stadiums that DJ mentions, with extended Interchange benches to maximise flexibility for AFL listed players.

Meanwhile the VFL becomes a genuine and fairer second tier comp where all clubs are trying to win as their first priority and not just 'develop' players or 'give a run to a returning star'. I remember watching the 2015 VFL grand final with Cyril Rioli playing after returning from injury. They took him (the best player on the field) off at 3/4 time so as not to risk injury for the AFL Grand Final the next week.

I could also go back to supporting the Boroughs instead of the conflict I have now.

Good side Munro’s injury must be serious been out for a while now. Forgot about Buntine, Koo must be the 23rd man. Farris-White must be playing in the under 18’s again.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
