TRAINING MONDAY, 13 MARCH 2023, was a bit of a photo shoot.

The media was there.

Most of the players having shots over the manequins, many hanging them from the shaded area on the boundary.

Fritta doing laps, had one kick at goal, and wearing his normal training jersey (the one with their number on it) .

Viney still in rehab, pushing himself in the laps. He did a few with Salem,  half ways, and more full laps. Looks like he is working to be match fit. As he ended up bent over a couple of times.

Oliver was working closely with Moniz-wakefield.

J.Smith was in his training jersey as well, looking free to go and happy.

BBB was kicking long 40 m goals from straight out. He and Vines the last on the paddock

This is going to be a very interesting game. The new ins for the dogs definitely make them more dangerous, but Grundy/Maxy look fit, healthy and between those two dropping back and forward, I feel an ultra tall dogs forward line is negated somewhat. We're going to have to handle their talls but vice versa, Grundy and Max both hanging around the forward line will be a nightmare for the doggies to deal with. Could be a shoot out.

I reckon they'll be a handful and it will be close but Dees by 11 points in the end.

We made the stupid mistake of rushing Salem for round 1 last year when he looked completely underdone and it cost him his year.

Hopefully history won't repeat himself and we give Jack all the time his knee needs to heal.

salem got an impact injury in rd 1, 2022

it was unrelated to any other issue; his problem was we brought him straight back and he was underdone

i can't see viney playing, and i have my doubts on fritsch too

Spargo's doing quite a bit of media stuff lately!

Better than Langdon. He's spoken twice and managed to bag Ross Lyon and Collingwood - all Duck no Dinner.

I think he has been permanently banned from media duties :)

I don't think the amount of talls in the opposition team really will have much of a bearing on how we play, we'll try to win it out of the middle and put them under a lot of pressure, make them kick it long and high and let our team defense do it's thing.

I'd suspect Gawn will go behind the ball pretty early in the game but beyond that it'll be more about beating them on the inside where i think they're a little thin without dunkley

Exactly. Thats how our coaching staff operate.

The Dogs going in with too many talls in their fwd line would be a mistake. Easy to counter when the ball hits the ground. The weather will be factor. Last night on Ch 7 they were saying it is predicted to be 35 degree with a late stormy change. This morning I notice the BoM says it will be 29deg with a 5% chance of rain [But 1cm higher sea levels in 100 years!]

You confirmed what the other poster said re Viney being rushed back In 2022 and not to repeat it with Viney this year..

Looking at Fritta on the news he looks ready but is he underdone snd can he overcome this with his style of game.

Agree Might be best to leave to Lions game for Fritta.

I think Jordon may be in the 23 - reliable mid-field depth in the absence of Viney.

Moreso if Weightman doesn't play who apparently hasn't trained much lately.

At ground level they will be relying on ex-demons: Hannan and Baker (if he plays), Smith and not sure who else of any note.  But they need Smith to do more in the midfield and or the wing but he can't do it all.

Interesting watching Footy Classified and Lloyd look at Petty ‘out of the square’ as a bad match up for him based on one game where he paid a kid zero respect (tigers practice match).

I think that is clutching straws or pearls or whatever.

Not excusing Petty in that match and agree that he paid the kid zero respect but it was also at the very end of a practice match where we comprehensively beat our opponent on a very hot day.

Oh no doubt, and if it wasn’t for the 5th (?) most important footy discussion show making it a ‘chink in the armour’ I would have paid it no heed.

Junk time in a junk game.

Thus would make for a Tmac to backline and Petty to CHF or FF if this happens again.

Petty had some trouble on a taller opponent.

He didn't get strong enough body weight on to the Saints player. Perhaps, he should have got more of a run up at him, or he gets support from other backmen (which he had none of, in the marking contest)

Good learning for him on how to play those with long arms.

He was playing on a kid. He showed little respect and played 20m ahead of him. I wouldn’t infer much from it at all. The only learning for Petty would be you might want play properly when you’re playing, otherwise you’re just properly playing.

His knee was heavily strapped and was proppy when he ran out into the ground before the bounce of the ball.

He was absolutely not 100% fit and simply should not have played.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
