CONCLUSION: I think we need a CHB, a half back, a wingman and midfielder and pray we don't get injuries to our best 22.

With May getting into his 30s and Petty being pushed forward, I agree we need a new KPP back.

What about this bloke we currently have Jed Adams?

https://www.melbournefc.com.au/players/7416/jed-adams

Has been a bit of discussion on here regarding the development of Jefferson, but realitively little on Adams.  Normally KPP backs can step up and play seniors earlier than forwards, due to them being lead to the ball and only needing to be the spoiler, not the play maker / need for them to take big contested marks.

Do any of the Casey watchers have much of a read on Adams?  He looked great in his draft highlights videos, but all reports seem to have flatlined since then.

3rd in the grand final sprint yesterday!

He had an ok first year. Didn’t get much of the ball and was safe but not all that amazing when he did get it.

Seemed to stick to the task defensively but there were plenty of times when he was just at a contest but not owning it with decisive marks or spoils. Once or twice a game he would have an intercept mark or spoil that would make you take notice.

In the rehab group for most of last summer though so I expect we’ll know a lot more next year.

Already mentioned that Dunstan, JJ out and Harmes looking. I have serious worries that Gus will pull the pin or be rarely available next season, he is only one head knock away from serious trouble. There is a desperate need for more class midfielders. Rivers is the only one I can see stepping up or recruit a running outside mid as we have enough bulls.

I don't care who we take with our first pick,

So long as that player is an elite kick.

If we don't land a KPF, I'd be taking O'Sullivan. Not sure if he's considered an elite kick by recruiters, but he appears a nice kick.

I think we want better finishers forward centre. Let's see...

@ChaserJ, would you say Watson's kicking depth is much longer than a Charlie Spargo? Seems to struggle from over 35-40m. I was put off by his recent game. And yes, I know, no one should judge a player by one game.

Casboult re-signed with GCS months ago. If you’re going to go to the effort of posting pictures of players you might want to first google their contract situation.

Lol that’s hilarious. Old mate HeartBeatsTrue can’t even get their information correct. Casboult is unsigned for 2024. Not only that he’s an unrestricted free agent. Doesn’t even affect my argument but you’ve got to chuckle at some of these mouthy posters who do nothing but take potshots from the sidelines. They can’t even get their basic facts straight.

LEVI Casboult will go round again at Gold Coast in 2024, two years after his AFL career looked over.

Who couldn’t get their information straight????

Methinks an apology to “old mate The Heart Beats True” is in order.

JK. Like that’d ever happen.

Hey mate, yeah, O’Sullivan’s a good user of the ball and a reasonably good decision maker, would be comfortable if we went that way. Much surer with ball in hand than Petty (as an example) and could either play key post or third tall/intercept defender.

Overall, Watson’s kicking depth is ok. What I’ve seen over the course of the year is that he can rush his kicks and can be inconsistent by foot.

He can do the brilliant (and does so quite often), but I’m not sure if he puts a bit of extra pressure on himself to do too much to make things happen, but that’s when he can get the timing wrong with his kicks. That’s how it looked in the GF. Eastern’s overall depth and scoring power wasn’t great this year, so understand why Watson might have felt that.

He plays a million miles an hour all the time, if he drops that just a little and picks his moments a bit better, I get the feeling that his field kicking and overall game will be the better for it.

I agree Watson's kicking seemed rushed and a bit erratic in that GF but his ball winning and handling at full pace (and his is fast) was very impressive.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
