i have two passions in my football world

1. watching my team winย

2. watching young talent develop their game and hone their skills

mfc aflw is giving me both at the moment

yeah sure i know there is still a long way to go and everything is far from rosy but it's continually on the up

Same here dc.

Chaplin, McNamara, Zanker, Hanks, Purcell, Heath, Gillard, Mackin, and BANNAN all 23 or younger.

And Harris, Hore, Birch, West, Sherriff, Lampard and Mithen all in the 24-25 age range.

If they keep playing together for 5 years - they will be a force throughout.

Just wanted to mention something I noticed on Friday night that was pretty cool. So, before every match - menโ€™s and womenโ€™s - we (banner crew) usually line the race and clap and cheer the players as they head back to the rooms after warmup on the field. When doing so on Friday, among the players were some of the coaching staff, BBB being one of them. The many fans were calling out the girlsโ€™ names and no one even really noticed BBB. Moreover, he kept his head down and didnโ€™t engage with the fans, and this seemed intentional. He knew itโ€™s not about him.

Noteworthy because on GameDay in the menโ€™s, BBB (along with Harmesy and Kozzie) is one player who always engages with us the most. I reckon itโ€™s pretty telling in terms of respect for our players.ย

Benny is ace, he's one of the most approachable of the men, and he's so engaging and inclusive.ย  He's fantastic, lovely fellow.ย  Hattie, too.ย ย

Speaking of the girls having a good time: itโ€™d be awesome to see a big crowd at training tomorrow morning. The girls deserve to have a heap of support from as many people as possible. And you wanna see appreciation? They have so much time for us fans and are always happy to engage.

And of course, while youโ€™re there, visit the Demon Army sausage sizzle. Come and have brekkie in the form of a snag in bread, with or without onions, only $2:50 (I know right, caveman prices) or a snag in bread with a drink (soft drink or water) for $4 (breakfast in Melbourne for under $5โ€ฆ Iโ€™d like to see that!) โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Princes Parkย

Gates open at 8:30am (snags sizzling also at 8:30)

Training commences at 9am

ย BE THERE!!!

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere on DL.ย  It is a great article on our tactics after quarter time of the Crows game.ย

The key?ย  "But it all started with the Demons' changes in the middle, and the willingness of Tyla Hanks to sacrifice her own game to create opportunities for her ball winning teammates".ย

It sounds very similar to the attitude of the AFL team in 2021.

Hopefully, the girls can deliver the same prize ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ™ƒ

You need to get into following this fabulous team, Old Dee!

I have to say first I have not watched the Dee Girls this season but every time I put on a game to see the score ( which is haphazard ) I strike a game like Last weekend. 15 minute mark of the last quarter Roo's vs Cats and the score was 14 points vs 12 points. It was terrible with both teams gathering the ball and blindly kickingย  into there forward line only to be marked by the opposition who did exactly the same thing. Now this was a finals match good help me if it had been two poor teams,ย  I know you will all say I picked a poor game but that is all I seem toย  get. I hope you all enjoy watching but it ain't for me I am afraid.

Kevin Smith has a great saying that people think he is too positive but he just says that he doesnโ€™t feel the need to talk about the things that he doesnโ€™t like. โ€˜Why waste time [censored] on the things that other people like?โ€™ would be a suitable paraphrase.

But, in saying that, watch the Dees play. Even watch some of the highlights on YouTube. They are much better than all the other teams bar Brisbane.

OD I'm unsure if anyone has mentioned this previously but I've noticed you have a residential address listed under your avatar, is it a Deementia unit?

Well, you get the drift Old Dee. There is a chasm between Melbourne/Brisbane and the rest. How our women, OUR CLUB, play each week is absolutely stunning. Have you heard any negative comments from anyone who has actually watched them this year?ย  Their matches are incredibly fast, the standard is nothing you've seen before - trust me. They are so exciting, and bloody tough! One day you'll realise how good they are. For your sake, don't let it be AFTER they win their first flag. You will regret it.

I was sceptical at first 'old dee' but believe me our girls are great to watch.

Sure the skills are not at the AFL level but they have really improved.

The sense of fun as well as competitiveness from this group along with the x factor of Bannan and the 2 Irish girls Goldy and Mackin is worth it.

I've never seen anyone in the mens game do what Bannan has done. Her speed over the ground with long strides is simply incredible. The 6 bounce run last week, not to mention the play on goal, the run down tackle from 50+ metres away a few weeks back.

Get on board 'old dee'...

Too much on here now for individualย ๐Ÿ‘s, so thanks everyone for the observations,ย  insights and emotions expressed.

I point the as-yet-unconverted to the 'All The Moments' videos of the last few games, on the club's website. They well support the views of the converted herein.

Solid session. (Even watching them train is enjoyable!) Gay and Sheriff on lighter duties but nothing to worry about. Great vibe within the group. And what was meant to be a 15 min autograph session turned into over an hour. Theyโ€™re fierce af on-field but sweet af off the field.ย Not a single big head amongst them. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Begs the question why isnโ€™t it Princeโ€™s Park?ย

As a child, Earl, I used to think, and say, that the Princes Highway was the Princess Highway, evidently presuming a missing 's' rather than wondering about an absent apostrophe. Turns out the highway was originally the Prince's Highway (named for Eddy #8 when Prince of Wales) but there has apparently since evolved an 'Australian geographic naming convention' that removes apostrophes, possibly because they 'look ugly' on signage and because 'it can be argued that contextually they don't really belong'. I presume Princes Park went the same route! Thanks, for this, to the 'Google Groups "Aussie Highways" group' (yes, there is such a thing...)

p.s. Careful with 'begs the question' (a usage I've never been able to get my head around): you might be fodder for "Demonstone's and Flaubert's English Grammar for Demonlanders 101'! (though I would argue this one is at least Third Year 301!)

Oooookkkkaaaayyyy, so the women are playing in Carlton on a Saturday arvo. Surely we can sell out that place against another team from the city.ย

Would be disappointing if this great team had less supporters than NM.

Get there and be a part of something!

ย

I have loved footy and our beloved Dees for most of my long life, and I can honesty say that, outside of AFL premierships and a few other extremely memorable occasions, nothing has given me more joy than to watch the โ€˜growthโ€™ of our AFLW players and game plan over the last seven years. ย itโ€™s been phenomenal.

A flag is almost within touching distance. I promise you, tears will be streaming if / when we can bring it home.

  • NON-MFC: Round 12

Round 12 kicks off with the Brisbane hosting Essendon at the Gabba as the Lions aim to solidify their top-two position against an injury-hit Bombers side seeking to maintain momentum after a win over Richmond. On Friday night it's a blockbuster at the G as the Magpies look to extend their top of the table winning streak while the Hawks strive to bounce back from a couple of recent defeats and stay in contention for the Top 4. On Saturday the Suns, buoyed by 3 wins on the trot, face the Dockers in a clash crucial for both teams' aspirations this season. The Suns want to solidify their Top 4 standing whilst the Dockers will be desperate to break into the 8.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.ย  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.ย  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.ย  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.ย
