I hear your concerns on Meek  but Grundy WAS a multiple AA and WAS a B and F.  His contract has too many years left on it.

Big risk I can't see Pert signing off on unless contarct terms are rock solid our way risk-wise.

Every recruit is a risk, signing players for 7 or 8 years is a risk.  You don’t get opportunities to sign stars of the comp on a reduced rate whilst in the window.   Grundy is a beast and will make us a better side

Hawks have put their hat in the ring.  So four clubs with interest:  GWS, Eagles and Demons.

That Meek has requested a trade suggests he isn't coming.  If he was he would know he is part of the Jackson trade.  We may have lost interest or perhaps he is testing the market before committing to us.

Reckon he would fancy his chances of a regular 22 spot at the Hawks more than with us.  Ditto at WCE and he is a West Australian.

Given all that I doubt he is coming to mfc.

Edit:  Just read this on foxfooty:  “GWS is the most likely, but Gold Coast, North Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda and Geelong are all showing interest in Meek".

He is originally from around Ballarat FYI - not from WA

Thanks.  That makes a difference.  Lots of clubs in the running then.

Sorry but this will be a disastrous trade for us if it goes ahead imv.   Pies will be ecstatic though!

Been reported that GWS are willing to pay him $600k a year.  I didn’t realise he was that well thought of. You would think an early second round pick might be required if they are going to pay him those wages.
With Logue, Acres, Tucker and probably Lobb all rumoured to be heading out of Freo they should easily be able to get the draft capital to satisfy us in the Jackson trade.

he's a much better tap ruckman than darcy, but they committed to darcy coin wise and contract wise already, long term mistake for them i rkn, he's already struggling to carry that size of his around for an entire season and that'll only get worse as he ages. the giants surely cant go into next season with preuss/flynn/briggs AND meek tho. briggs just signed a new deal and preuss has lost currency so i'd imagine its academy boy flynn who's shown bits and has a decent amount of FWD craft who goes... we did bid on him in his draft year

AFL reporting Meek's preferred club is Hawthorn.

Freo saying they want to keep him as he is under contract.

Normally I would think that is posturing but they are about to lose 3-5 tall players so I can see they would want to keep him.

I watched him play in the WAFL on the weekend and was very underwhelmed by what I saw tbh, for a big guy.

hed waltz straight in past the beanpole reeves and maxy lynch no issues. good decision for him, a quick way into a long 8-9 year career at a side you just know will spring back up the ladder in a few years time when mitchell has everything in order

They can have him, haven't seen that much to suggest he'd stand out in a rebuilding side.

He does seem to have good awareness at stoppages.

Says a little about Freo if they don't let Meek go.

It seems an unwritten rule that if a player cannot get a regular game at a club and is offered an opportunity at another everything reasonable is done to facilitate the move.

Witness what we are doing with Weid. There's no upside for us in letting him go a year early but it's happening

It sounds childish if they want to keep Lobb and Meek. Meek has been on the list for 5 years and wants opportunity, need to let one of these guys go and do the right thing.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
