AFLW GAMEDAY : Rd 01 vs Adelaide

Recommended Posts

The AFLW season kicked off last night with Carlton vs Collingwood at Ikon Park but tonight, it will really swing into action with the Grand Final replay from earlier this year. Can the Demons emulate the men’s AFL team from March and win the equivalent game tonight?

Huge game first up

The Crows are a very tough proposition over there and despite losing Erin Phillips (absolute gun) they still have plenty of skill and experience

Around the ball they are just so tough. Marinoff and Hatchard are beasts. They've monstered us in the past

This is Daisy's last crack at it, would love if we could bring home the prize this year

As ever, we won't lose through lack of heart or endeavour, this girls as always give their best

Hard to see a win here. My heart says Dees but head say Crows by 10 points

What are our chances this year? Adelaide had a big advantage of being the only SA team last year.

Have they lost many other players to Port?

Have we lost many players to the new clubs?

Shelly Scott and Jacqueline Parry to Geelong were our losses.

Adelaide very strong but no longer the state squad.

Other than Erin Phillips the crows have kept their core group of players together. They’ll be favourites again this year.

and I know it’s an early call but having to play the crows away, again, puts us at a disadvantage. Not in conceivable both teams win all the remaining games which will put us in second again and a likely granny in Adelaide, again. This game tonight is massive.

Hopefully Stinear has spent the last four months working out how to stop Hatchard and Marinoff. We have more talent across the field, but their best players destroy us every time. Goldrick is a big out, as she was one of our best in the GF. Crows are clearly favourites on past form.

Everything I've read and heard in the last few days says that Melbourne are the premiership favourites, followed by Brisbane.  I'm not sure why people are dropping off Adelaide though, because Erin Philips seems to be the only star players no longer there.

ACH Stadium (Glenelg Oval) is the smallest of the SANFL ovals and hopefully lead to a higher scoring match.

Goldie injured. Not sure how long

We are favourites which is surprising.

I reckon Harris will dominate even more this year. L Pearce and Zanker are by the far the best ruck duo in the comp.

we need big seasons from Mithin and Hanks and pressure team football and are a red hot chance tonight

I thought I had to go the weekend without footy until I realised the women were playing!  This AFLW season has really snuck up on me.

Hopefully the men's finals don't overshadow the early rounds too much

Really loved our hit out in the practice match we had at the "G".

So many scoring opportunities created, with good skills and great ball movement down the corridors, we created many turnovers, competed well when in the contest, got plenty of the ball and controlled the play.

We should be up there with the best teams.

Hore, Gay, Zanker, Mithin, Heath, Bannan, Daisy,  Birch, Paxman, Hanks, Harris, Lampard, Lauren. great core of women.

Go Dees.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
