Same I remember playing this mob can't remember what year, late Bailey or early roos years and we needed to win to have a chance at finals and we turned in an all time inept stinker. Only matched by that last round to make finals performance against the pies.

That was 2016 second last round. Needed to win to have a mini-elimination final in the last round at Kardinia. Think Hogan missed a sitter or two. Got done by 100 pts the next week anyway. Ahhh the good old days!

How about 04? Needed to beat these barnburners at Princes Park to seal top 4 and didn't...

EDIT: Nope I'm thinking of the 2006 season. Lost to them in round 1 and then again later in the year.

Carlton won 3 games for the season. Two against Melbourne. We would've finished 4th had we won both.

We would have dislodged Sydney from top 4 and faced WC in Perth.

That could be a bad omen. Carlton once tried to rebrand themselves as the Cockatoos in the 1930's!

That was the one we needed and we inexplicably dropped it.

From memory, Pagan created a Dad's Army list that year that had a really low ceiling. He got a decent year out of them in 2004 but they fell off a cliff in '05.

There you go, ANOTHER example! Always felt that 06 season could have been anything if we got top 4. That demolishing of the Dogs the week before was something else.

Yeah that's right, so many 'nearly men' on that list like Cory Mcgrath, Daniel Harford, Glenn Bowyer, Heath Scotland etc

Whilst I didn't know that, it hasn't stopped me from calling them a bunch of cox

We should comfortably dispose of Carlton and Brisbane. Nothing against those two. We are a top 4 side that needs to start getting real.

Agree 100%, if we don't then we're not winning the flag this year so doesn't matter where we finish anyway.

2006, Carlton won 3 games for the season - 2 of them against us at Docklands. Cost us top 4.

Edit should've kept reading this was covered above 🤣

04 was similar Gonz, we literally just needed that second last round win for top 4 and Fev went nuts.

Remember it well - top of the ladder after beating Hawks in round 18 then lost our last 4 games ☹️

Need to put these guys out of business. They just won their grand final, now it's real business time.

Scotty Thompson breaking his toe sunk us that year.

It really did, our midfield lacked a bit after that.

For what it is worth. Last week I presume a lot of people kept away from the footy because of the rain that was forecast.  It didn’t rain at all during the game. BOM in its hourly projections said it was going to rain (The icon symbols can be misinterpreted and therefore be misleading- the way I read it, if there is even a small chance of showers it will show up a ‘rain icon’ , if that makes sense).
The app I used (Windy) draws on BOM data but interprets it differently- in my mind more realistically! It said the showers would be gone by 7pm and that is what happened.

Right now BOM says it should be raining where I live- and it isn’t and it hasn’t been! It indicates (the hourly forecast)  for Richmond for showers right now , all day and through to tomorrow night and through to Sunday!. My guess is that this is unlikely, sure there will be some showers but not all the time (therefore is somewhat misleading).  My app says there will be some showers this arvo and more importantly showers tomorrow from about 4 to 7pm and then dry. Obviously the forecast will change between now and then.

Why the long dribble you may ask? In short , BIG game tomorrow night, we need to OUTNUMBER Carlton supporters and show LOUD support for our boys. Surely the Cripps decision is incentive to turn up. I would urge you to spur some of your fair weathered friends to turn up. And if there happens to be some showers tomorrow night, keep in mind it is only falling water.

Also, keep in mind that no matter how loud you barrack at home, the boys can’t hear you. As always, not having a go at the elderly, Covid concerned, distance issued supporters.

One last thing. For those of us that turn up tomorrow night, just remember that you are not going to the opera, you are going to the footy- make some bloody noise!

their midfield depth will be a real concern for them, they can probably match us when they have the 3 big guns in there, but the moment they rotate we should have a clear advantage.

I also think Gawn/Jackson will run Pit around which could be a huge challenge for him.

I think we really need a statement win, you've got the Blues with their season on the line, i think we need to really put them to the sword

Jackson is going to spend a fair amount of time rucking against Silvagni. Luke simply has to have an impact tomorrow night.

Yeh for about the next 12 years 😂

Pittonet has a decent record against Gawn - but when we have Jackson as well it's a tough ask.  Kinda surprised they don't pay De Konig.  Haven't seen much of them but I remember him torching Sydney earlier this year with his contested marking.

Is it a matter of with McKay and Curnow they can't really afford to rest immobile rucks forward?  If that's the case, if Jackson leaves is De Konig a player we should be sounding out?  Or did I just see his greatest game?

I guess this is the most appropriate thread for this.  Apologies if it's a re-post!

Either way, enjoy! 😎

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
