Optimus D 283 Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 (edited) Great courage from Josh Jenkins and Eddie Betts to have unleashed such an extraordinary and harrowing story. A wonder how many others players that this camp has affected but are unable to tell their story and need help in addressing this period of their playing careers. To me there seems to be a lot of lip service about player welfare from the AFL and AFLPA, well now its their turn to be courageous to stand up and give this issue, the players and supporters the due consideration that it deserves. Look forward to seeing the response. Edited August 5, 2022 by Optimus D 4 Quote
layzie 34,528 Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Brave stuff from Josh. Had no idea his story was quite so tough. The truth is out now. 1 Quote

rpfc 29,030 Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Well that’s now corroborated, and it can’t now be compartmentalised as just the indigenous boys struggling with this, as some were intimating. This was personal destruction of the marginalised, regardless of skin colour, although it would help if one was in the majority. Those with a mum, dad, and a ‘normal’ upbringing. What a disgrace. Where is the Dr’s report? Where is the AFL investigation summary? Why is Riccuito still there? 2 Quote
Mazer Rackham 14,972 Posted August 5, 2022 Posted August 5, 2022 Ricciuto was probably ruing that he didn't get to go on the camp too. A nice old fashioned hazing of the smaller and weaker. What's not to like? Quote
redandbluemakepurple 377 Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 The response of the AFL, ALPA, Eddie McGuire and Adelaide FC has been mealy-mouthed and it has been either disingenuous or just plain stupid. Ricciuto said "I think the club's been on record at times to say they acknowledge it wasn't handled perfectly, it had all good intentions but it didn't go perfectly. We all love Eddie and hopefully Eddie's getting over that." HRH Eddie and others spoke of Eddie moving on. If they wish to "attack the ball" and fix the situation, they need first to explicitly say that they accept that each of Eddie's statements is true. Then they need to state that they are not entitled to treat Eddie in that manner. Roo's and the other supposed apologies do not do that. Then he may be able move on. Lamumba is in a similar situation. All the Maggies will say is a general "mistakes have been made and we will do better". Buckley said that recollections varied. However, there has been sufficient corroboration by other players that Lamumba was called Chimp for example but no acknowledgement by the club. They obviously value their pride more than a person. 1 Quote

Still can't work out all the outrage. Everyone knew it was a total disaster 3-4 years ago. Only some of the details are new. Imagine if someone released unknown embarrassing details about the MFC merger & everyone got into a huff & started demanding enquiries & apologies. I'm sure Eddies book has sold well. Quote

Mazer Rackham 14,972 Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Not getting all the hagiography of these enemy club players. I wish "the Blues" had had a camp just like Adelaide's, with a similar outcome. Quote

I wish "the Blues" had had a camp just like Adelaide's, with a similar outcome. Well, to an extent they did. Complete with draftee tied to a tree, and some never clarified events on a boat other Yarra, the 'Fevola era' of spiralling behaviour did as much damage to the club as the salary cap penalties. One example that comes to mind is that Luke Livingston really should have been a 200-game player, but didn't even reach 50 due to [reasons]. Any time I hear about these things I'm reminded of our own 'camp pushback' by the players, and that as a club we were able to resolve the argument maturely and to actually have player-coach relationships improve over the long term as a result. That process may even have been a crucial moment of building trust and commitment. 3 Quote
