Sorry to burst bubbles but our answer to our search for a forward is either in house or in a trade. With our window open now, the next 4 years are crucial while Gawn is still playing and healthy.

This may be a salve but not until 2026…

Thought I would chip in, seen plenty of Rebels action this season.

Cadman is shaping up to be the best key forward in the draft, he was always going to be a first-round pick so we would have had to trade up for him, but his recent form has been super impressive he now looks like a top-ten lock.

For some reason the narrative has been that he is inaccurate in front of goal, but compared to others he is fine.

His overhead marking is so good to watch, ball just sticks in his hands plus he offers plenty around the ground which has flown under the radar. Often he will pop up high up the ground and successfully impact/alter a contest.

He'd be 195cm minimum by now, but he makes up for his height with his reach and overhead marking ability.

Gutted that we will not be able to get him.

It's a pity it doesn't sound like a repeat of the 2015 draft that had Weitering, Curnow, the McKays and Hipwood.

We may get multiple first round picks for Freo. Unless he shoots up into top 3 calculations I wouldn't rule him out yet.

If we did lose Jackson to Freo🤬🤬

the only silver lining is that we’d be in the race for this kid

surely JT has AARON CADMAN in bold text on his list. I have him #6 draft pick but he’s a key forward which are like gold.

Cadman is a Jeremy Cameron 2.0. Full forward or CHF.

Van Rooyen and Cadman would be a perfect combo for our forward line !!

yup, just of those highlight i thought that same thing, looks a lot like Cameron.  always looks to have 5m on his opponent.

If the Jackson trade ends up being a pick and a player surely he is our main target with that pick!

but, i also was dirty when we picked Oliver over Parrish, so i'll leave it to our recruiters who have hit the nail more times than not of recent times.

Kicked 5.1 from 24 disposals against the western jets. Really want us to draft this kid if Jacko goes and gives us decent draft capital. Is probably firming as a top 10 selection.

Just watching that video he definitely reminds me of Jeremy Cameron, but not as skilled. Still, he does look an interesting prospect.

If he is the one we want, we might need a top 5 pick.

Freo might have to get one.

WC might swap theirs for a player, or a couple of high picks.

That would just about guarantee the player we want and then something else, like say Meek and another pick.

He is 18 years old - would you expect him to be as skilled as Cameron now ? I wouldn't

He can take one grab marks, has a good kicking action, can move ok and can get separation from his defender - yes all of this at NAB level but still shows lots of promise - surely in the frame given our need for quality tall forwards

I reckon the Hawks would have to be looking at Cadman for sure. They can have Cadman and Mitch Lewis as future tall forwards. They got Ward and Macdonald last year and their defence is ok.  We’d need to get maybe pick 5 imv to get Cadman.

When you're 18 years old, you want the kicking action to be foundationally solid. So yeah, I would. But I've seen one video, so that's not enough to judge on.

Cadman's highlights show he oozes class. While Jeremy Cameron has been used as a reference point, he doesn't look quite as strong in the air to me. (He would go #1 or #2 if he was as good a mark as Cameron.)

This is a midfielder heavy draft. Cadman is the best tall forward and looks the only one likely to be top 10. One scarcity and who's currently down the bottom holding those picks, I dare say he'll go pick 4-5. Unless we can get a top 5 pick, he's not a realistic option for us unfortunately.

He looks good to me on limited viewing. Pairing him with JVR one term would be deelightful. I thought the same thing about Hogan and Weideman though 😢

And Weideman and I know you're talking key position but a certain Clayton Oliver, Schache. A lot of quality players in that draft all the way through.

Bit of a super draft really, isn't it? If we'd nailed the KPF in that draft we'd be absolutely laughing.

Just doing the quick glance at the ladder, I see Essendon & GWS as teams that could go tall in that p 5 range, think there’s a strong likelihood that we’d need to get ahead of those picks if we identify Cadman as the kpf for us. Jefferson probably doesn’t get past pick 11.

Free don't hold draft picks that they could offer us anywhere near the top 4-10 that looks like will be needed to get Cadman.  Unless we can  do some blackmail with WCE 2 or 3 picks v Jackson.

The AFL’s draft guru Kevin “Shifter” Sheehan has posted an article on the Herald Sun online members site in which he looks at the top 30 draft picks based on ranking points in the U18 National Championships. He has Cadman at #20.

“20. Aaron Cadman
Avg. Ranking Points in U18 National Championships: 91 points (3 games)
GWV Rebels/Darley FC/Emmanuel College
H: 194cm, W: 88kg, DOB: 03/03/04
A left-footed tall forward with a vice-like grip overhead, Cadman is also incredibly clean below the knees for a big man. He presents well as a target forward with his repeat leading and an aggressive approach to the ball is a feature of his game. Cadman has progressed in his development after showing potential in representing Victoria Country at Under 17s level. He was a late call up to the Australian Under 18 team after a promising start to the NAB League season with the Rebels, which saw him draw comparisons to Geelong’s Jeremy Cameron. Cadman has averaged 13.7 disposals, 6.7 marks, 2.3 goals and 7.3 score involvements from three national championships games for Vic Country.”

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
