I commented after the Hawthorn game how annoying some Melbourne supporters had become at the ground. If it wasnโ€™t โ€˜perfectโ€™ they got upset.

On the weekend it was eerily quite after halftime because we really didnโ€™t fire a shot. I honestly think if we kicked the first goal of the last quarter it would have brought the crowd into it. Instead there was nothing to cheer. We got smashed all over the ground, and nobody stood up and tried to change momentum. Had Viney or Pickett ruffled some feathers the crowd would have brought in. The players looked so flat - so the supporters became really quite.

I donโ€™t think that will happen again this year. I think if a team is coming at us Jack, Koz and Harmesy will scrap. Plenty of learnings there. Bring the crowd into the game - especially at home.

When track had that snap in the last that just missed the members were up on their feet. A close game where we are challenged gets the crowd going. We've basically had comfortable victories or got smashed. You need tension for atmosphere. We've got a tougher draw now then finals. The atmosphere will be better.

Coincidentally, I have literally just completed an online survey for the MCC which, amongst other things, asked for the one improvement of the match day experience I would like to see. I pleaded for a stop to the music being played after goals have been scored.ย ย

I still think there is a good deal of covid and now flu fear deterring some from getting into a crowded train.

Add in the mandatory reserved seat which deters those who may make a late call on attending, and those who like to seat in a specific area but canโ€™t. ย
With large infilled areas higher in the stands, under cover, yet one may be allocated a bottom deck seat in the open, many wonโ€™t come if weather threatens.
Is this booked seat stuff the new norm or will it lift if this pandemic passes and another one doesnโ€™t follow?

Yeh im just using a short version as pretty much every rock fan's aware of the enter part.

I have no gripe with the song or the group Coach.ย  It's a beauty.ย  ย But everyone's using it and our original intro song was Hell's Bells which was far more fitting.ย  Just my opinion.

Very average song and heralded the death of the group.ย
Should be never heard ever again, especially these days with Jamesโ€™s ย voice as poor as it is.ย
image them walking out to Raining blood insteadโ€ฆ now that would be amazing.

And didnโ€™t the filth use to play Sandman before their games?

From this week, there is walk up for the MCC reserve if that is where youโ€™re headed. Unsure of the rest of the ground.

Is that for tonightโ€™s match ?

Yep

We got 35,000 to the corresponding Saturday night match last year against Sydney.

Anything less than 30K would be a failure.

A big mid season Saturday night game against a side that always draws a crowd down in Melbourne really requires at least 40,000 if weโ€™re to be considered a big Melbourne club.

the reserve has been nearย  full all year it is not MCC members choosing not to attend and making for low attendance

Across the oval AFL members has been bare all year

Excellent factoid.

I am just letting a fellow traveller know that there is walk up available from this week.

Anyone who canโ€™t make it to the main game tonight, come to the Casey game (curtain-raiser) beforehand!!!ย

Gates open at 3:30pm, match starts at 3:45pm.ย

Thankfully this hasn't been an issue for GA members this year. Plenty of general admission available at games, bar blockbusters like Anzac Eve and Queen's Birthday. The issue this year is I believe you still cannot buy a ticket at the ground. None of the old ticket sale windows are manned anymore. This would stop an extra 2-3% perhaps from attending, like tourists and people who struggle with purchasing things online.

IIRC it was rather nice weather last year.

Tonight is going to be showery, windy and cold. Whether we like it or not, when coupled with the hassle many people seem to feel at going to the footy this year, the weather is going to turn people off.

purchased the kids a 5 game membership this week, we are going to the game tonight, though we won't be home until after midnight. Maccas in Point Cook on the way home should keep em going

Yeah in fairness last years night game followed a 20 degree day, and although it drizzled throughout that game, the weather is far worse today.

Hopefully they get in the low 30โ€™s at worst, when accounting for the average weather.

It allows them to close large sections of the ground thus reducing staff numbers, cleaning costs etc.

Unfortunately I see it continuing

Perhaps they will have small general admission areas but they will be limited and of course you will need to pre-purchase on line

Two words: Lotsa freaking layers!!!

You simply cannot be cold if you wear several layers. Five is my go-to. Ok, you may look like the Michelin Man, but youโ€™ll be toasty warm. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

News flash! Footy is a WINTER sport!

Iโ€™ve sat through domestic soccer matches in Poland. And survived.ย

Don't get me wrong, the weather would never stop me personally going. I'll be there tonight, even if it's wet and/or sub-zero.

But I know there are plenty who make a decision on the day/evening and if it's cold and wet and it's a long trip home, compared with a warm house and a couch, some will choose to stay home.

I guess I just have trouble understanding why anyone would wanna watch at home on Kayo when they could be at the ground watching it live.ย
And it really does mean EVERYTHING to the players, to hear and see the support.ย

This exactly, if we want the players to win for us let's be there! Already on my train to the city

Pathetic effort from our fan base tonight.ย
Dont want excuses that it was cold and wet. They all showed up and probably more of them than us tonight. Doubt there were more than 15k of us.

As for the Sydney fans, they are a clueless bunch of knobs.

Btw the team is killing our spirit with those performances. How can we be loud if the team playslike this?

They are making the away team feel at home ๐Ÿคฎ

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
