I commented after the Hawthorn game how annoying some Melbourne supporters had become at the ground. If it wasn’t ‘perfect’ they got upset.

On the weekend it was eerily quite after halftime because we really didn’t fire a shot. I honestly think if we kicked the first goal of the last quarter it would have brought the crowd into it. Instead there was nothing to cheer. We got smashed all over the ground, and nobody stood up and tried to change momentum. Had Viney or Pickett ruffled some feathers the crowd would have brought in. The players looked so flat - so the supporters became really quite.

I don’t think that will happen again this year. I think if a team is coming at us Jack, Koz and Harmesy will scrap. Plenty of learnings there. Bring the crowd into the game - especially at home.

When track had that snap in the last that just missed the members were up on their feet. A close game where we are challenged gets the crowd going. We've basically had comfortable victories or got smashed. You need tension for atmosphere. We've got a tougher draw now then finals. The atmosphere will be better.

I still think there is a good deal of covid and now flu fear deterring some from getting into a crowded train.

Add in the mandatory reserved seat which deters those who may make a late call on attending, and those who like to seat in a specific area but can’t.  
With large infilled areas higher in the stands, under cover, yet one may be allocated a bottom deck seat in the open, many won’t come if weather threatens.
Is this booked seat stuff the new norm or will it lift if this pandemic passes and another one doesn’t follow?

Very average song and heralded the death of the group. 
Should be never heard ever again, especially these days with James’s  voice as poor as it is.

From this week, there is walk up for the MCC reserve if that is where you’re headed. Unsure of the rest of the ground.

Yep

We got 35,000 to the corresponding Saturday night match last year against Sydney.

Anything less than 30K would be a failure.

A big mid season Saturday night game against a side that always draws a crowd down in Melbourne really requires at least 40,000 if we’re to be considered a big Melbourne club.

the reserve has been near  full all year it is not MCC members choosing not to attend and making for low attendance

Anyone who can’t make it to the main game tonight, come to the Casey game (curtain-raiser) beforehand!!! 

Gates open at 3:30pm, match starts at 3:45pm.

Thankfully this hasn't been an issue for GA members this year. Plenty of general admission available at games, bar blockbusters like Anzac Eve and Queen's Birthday. The issue this year is I believe you still cannot buy a ticket at the ground. None of the old ticket sale windows are manned anymore. This would stop an extra 2-3% perhaps from attending, like tourists and people who struggle with purchasing things online.

IIRC it was rather nice weather last year.

Tonight is going to be showery, windy and cold. Whether we like it or not, when coupled with the hassle many people seem to feel at going to the footy this year, the weather is going to turn people off.

purchased the kids a 5 game membership this week, we are going to the game tonight, though we won't be home until after midnight. Maccas in Point Cook on the way home should keep em going

Yeah in fairness last years night game followed a 20 degree day, and although it drizzled throughout that game, the weather is far worse today.

Hopefully they get in the low 30’s at worst, when accounting for the average weather.

It allows them to close large sections of the ground thus reducing staff numbers, cleaning costs etc.

Unfortunately I see it continuing

Perhaps they will have small general admission areas but they will be limited and of course you will need to pre-purchase on line

I’ve sat through domestic soccer matches in Poland. And survived.

Don't get me wrong, the weather would never stop me personally going. I'll be there tonight, even if it's wet and/or sub-zero.

But I know there are plenty who make a decision on the day/evening and if it's cold and wet and it's a long trip home, compared with a warm house and a couch, some will choose to stay home.

I guess I just have trouble understanding why anyone would wanna watch at home on Kayo when they could be at the ground watching it live. 
And it really does mean EVERYTHING to the players, to hear and see the support.
