Two games in and I'm seeing a few concerning signs from our Premiership Captain.

- Dropping marks he'd normally swallow

- Continued bewilderment at ruck infringements

- The misjudging of flight. The Doggies game especially.

- He's smiling/carefree attitude towards his mistakes. Dogs game again.

I accept it's early but the early signs from Max this year aren't great. Is the rise of Jackson affecting his game?

Lets hope he has a blinder this week and gets some of his aerial confidence back.

Please pick another target to motivate into some form @Steamin Demon 😁.

And speaking of Max Gawn , you are a freaking colossus. A guy your size shouldn't have skills like that nor did you need us to continually kick the ball to you. But there you go, I dips me lid.

not only is he the best ruckman i've ever seen at the dees - since mid-80s - but he's almost the most 'ruckmen...' of ruckmen; that missed snap that actually went the opposite way intended was PURE ruckman...

but what i loved about it is that he then chased, tackled, harassed and arguably should've won a free for incorrect disposal but instead gave the free away

brilliant ruckman, brilliant leader, brilliant off the field

+1. Has learnt from dogga how to play as a midfielder.

I think the ‘close thread’ stuff is a bit much considering how long a certain other thread was allowed to go on (and what it devolved into). Plus I think Steamin’ Demon wasn’t being disrespectful or abusive.

That said, any concerns that we might have had about Max were allayed comprehensively last night. Magnificent game by the captain.

Well this hasn’t aged well.

a good lesson for all of us. We are no longer a horrible club. When the next gun player has 2 poor weeks, don’t jump off them.

He may have had a slow start to the year (has slow starts every year) but he's certainly not slowing down anytime soon.

Keep this form up and he's on his way to being a 6 x All Australian.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #31 Bayley Fritsch

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
