Viney: No Complacency

Viney:  "Apparently there is going to be the biggest fireworks display going on at half-time as well, so it will be pretty spectacular.”

That should be fun to witness from close range.

Whilst most pundits agree we are the best side in the competition it is counted by many alluding to us becoming complacent, drinking bathwater, arrogant etc as if it’s a reality.

Whilst we're on Jack, he was the guest on the recent Gus and Gawny podcast. He revealed that he approached Goody and Richo before the GF, and asked if it was okay to line up a Dogs player at the opening bounce, and accept whatever suspension. Goody and Richo said no. He still cleaned up Macrae, and didn't cop a suspension.

Good I’m glad they said no. We don’t need that sort of thing tainting our club or our win.
Winning fairly is much better. We beat the Dogs because we played better for longer and had the internal fortitude to fight back when we were down. We didn’t need to hurt anyone to get the job done. We were good enough.

Tomlinson an offensive rebounding defender? Do these guys actually watch football? Tomlinson was very much a lockdown defender who was rarely given licence to be too offensive.

Viney's demeanor is quite different to Libba's.  Jack sounds and looks confident Libba much less so.  Not sure if that is Libba's usual media demeanor or video editing.

If the teams play like those leaders present my confidence of a win has gone up.

Listening to Gus and Gawny, Jack is in for a very big year.

Unlike the last 4-5 years, his foot is in great shape, he has barely missed a training session and has become an elite runner.

Scary!

…….

For me now, Libba’s usual demeanour is him, time and time and time again, chasing Melbourne players out of the centre square moments before we kick a goal.

Agreed.  He dropped his head a few times when he tried to chase during our late 3 qtr blitz.

What is being reported of the Bulldogs looks like a flat team.  Not sure if they are foxing and will come out like a tornado or are not physically or mentally ready.  They have a few key players out injured, some underdone, Hunter's form, Smith troubles with police in Queensland.  Not an ideal off-season.  They will build into the season but tomorrow night will be telling.

I think the scary thing is that the players are in the 2nd season of development with Mark Williams who does not believe that players ages are irrelevant and constant improvement of players like Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw, Neal-Bullen, Pickett, Jackson, Langdon, Rivers, Bowey, Sparrow, Jordan, Salem, Spargo, Fritsch, Petty, Lever, Harmes, Tomlinson, Hunt, Dunstan, Weideman, J Smith and Viney will be the catalyst for a good season.

The player mentioned are either in their prime or on the cusp of prime, we have 6 players over 30 which is a bonus some just turned 30 like May, Melksham and Gawn with the oldest player in the club being Hibberd at 32.

We have players like Laurie, Rosman, Howes, Woewodin, McVee, Van Rooyen, Turner, Moniz-Wakefield and D Smith who are in the 1st or 2nd year and have not played much football in the last 2 years and may become AFL footballers.

The team last year played 1 player who was recruited in 2020 so we were not depended on 1st year recruits to make up the bottom 6 players in the team.

The only problem I see if the injury gods stay away the team will perform well, hopefully if we get injuries it will not be to the core players and not very long.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
