I can only assume you're a youngster...

We reached approx 53,000 members after our grand final win. Some of those members were WA people who support other clubs but purchased a membership to gain GF entry.

Where do you believe another 15-20k members are going to appear from by the middle of the year?

The only possible way that could possibly happen is if the MFC/MCC dual membership came down to some ridiculous price.

I don't understand where you think that amount of new members will come from if not from the MCC?

I won’t argue with you: l’ll just point to the scoreboard towards the end of May.

I also suggest you look at the pattern of signing on from one year to the next. Members do not necessarily automatically renew, but l bet nearly all of them will this year following our success, and most of this is done in the month either side of the season start, and that does not include the bonus of the new members who are new demon supporters who’ve want to join the premiership bandwagon plus the rub off of the womens’ potential success. Just look at the way Hawthorn went from having one of the smallest membership lists to one of the biggest on the back of their three premierships, which l think we shall more than replicate.

We shall see, but l bet I’m closer than your pessimistic projections. Perhaps I’m just more optimistic about our continuing success than you!

We were on track for $60k before Covid hit again.

I don't think 65k is out of the realms of possibility after a flag, but I think it will end up somewhere between 60k and 65k.

I agree, 65k if we have a solid year. You can see from George's table that it's a pretty slow burn from March onwards... There are a couple of unknowns this year - the flag and (hopefully) being lockdown-free compared to the past two seasons. However, I think most of this would have already been factored into the tally.

The clubs usually have a big membership drive day in partnership wth SEN. That normally adds a couple of thousand. I don't think we've had that yet.

Hopefully we can also continue to convert MCC members to dual membership to up the numbers.

Would love to know the total number of demon supporting MCC members.

FYI this isn't a dig at MCC members, would just love to know how it would make our total supporter base numbers look in comparison to other clubs.

We have just over 20% of the 130,000 MCC members. Not sure how many of those are already dual members...

Also how many if them select "Melbourne" as their club but aren't really huge footy fans so unlikely to spend extra on a dual membership?

Did the club have a membership tent at the game yesterday and if so did it look busy?

I'm tipping anyone who turns up to Casey for a practice match aganst North in February is aready a member  ;-)

It was only a practice match, but performances like yesterday will generate more Memberships.
These Players are doing themselves and the club a great Service.

Just for the heck of it I extracted each team's Twitter follower stats:

I recall that a couple of years ago our figure was approx 40K.  So 70K is a big improvement.  However, we are right down the ladder across the AFL.

It is a bit disappointing given we have just won a flag.

Our figure may reflect our fan demographics ie much older fans who typically don't use social media.

Nonetheless, it says we have work to do to win over a younger generation.

Wow, lower than expected. I know we have much higher Instagram followers than many of those teams, it jumped up about 30 thousand during the finals. Not sure about Facebook. Would be great to add those two columns if you have time!

Including Instagram

For Instagram we rank 11th which is probably closer to our membership ranking.

Not sure how to get fb figures without loggin into each club's fb page.

Come on Dees Suporters, we are finally a great side and we are only 43000 members.

All MCC members be a member of the MFC, and raise our tally.

We are going to be a powerhouse of a team and we should at least get to 70000+ members.

Do we think this is:

A) Tim 'the Bull' Smith.

B) Tim 'the drink driver Smith

C) just a regular Tim Smith

think you're flogging a dead horse here dp. the board has decided the new home is to be in the mcg precinct

Certainly appear  to be. I guess now that I live in Beechworth I look at the MCG precinct as a little larger than when I lived in Northcote.

Access and parking appear to be more difficult but it was always resolved by staying around post game while crowds dwindled.

it would be great after a match to get express train to Fishermans Bend entertainment training centre where car would be parked, maybe even overnight accommodation if required.

Correct DC. Why people keep thinking fisherman's bend is beyond me. The board says G precinct. Everything else will not happen.

As quoted to DC plus I think the Gprecinct is maybe a little more sacred with less room for the required facility.

I have previously suggested that Tigers go down to Tassie as the Tassie Tigers and we redevelop Punt road facility.

if fisherman's bend ever gets 80,000 high density residents the parking opportunities will be worse than mcg/sports precinct

Include a transport hub in the centre so people can get there from suburbs before match and express to MCG

Totally support that idea. A neighbour is from Tassie (car still plates) and has tigers stickers on back window. Maybe he knows something.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
