It can be bit old cliché - but as that vid shows, bailey is complete natural footballer.

Exhibit A - how he positions his body in marking contest

Exhibit B - how he times his movement toward the incoming ball to make sure he is in the best position to mark or collect the ball.

Exhibit C - he has beautiful hands

Exhibit D - he is not just technically a good kick, he also has the much too rare skill to weight the ball to a teammates' advantage 

Class players having time is another cliché, but bailey has that attribute - but the other thing that jumps out from that vid is how he refuses to be rushed with ball in hand.

All of those attributes have translated to the AFL.

Robbie is an excellent  comparison - and there ain't no higher praise.

    This pre-GF comment from a Bulldog supporter on woof.net is typical of the lack of recognition Fritsch had:

    "I just can’t see the Dees kicking a huge score against us. We will nullify Brown and McDonald. Fritsch will be found wanting."

    Few will underestimate him now.

    Nobody was going to take that medal off Trac. 39 (40?) disposals, 2 goals, a million goal assists. Broke records. 

    Fritta was enormous, but Trac was more influential.

    I agree that Trac tore it up and of course the medal was 100% his. 

    But  I was just wondering how close Fritta was? He must have been second. 

    In the modern game six goals is a lot, especially in a final.

    I'm pretty sure the decision was made about CP quite quickly.

    But Im keen to hear opinions as to how many goals he would have needed for them to stop and consider BF.  

    For arguments sake let's assume that his poster earlier in the game was a goal and the miss in the last quarter went through as well...would 8 goals have clinched it?

    Same here. The Dogs achilles heel going forward too.

    Doggies friends said Easton Wood was done at the end of 2018. Not many team, Dogs especially , can boast a premiership-standard defence when the game is won traditionally. Daniels ins't a defender, and can be taken advantage of. ...etc.

    May, Lever, Salem, Petty, Bowey, Hunt, Hibberd, Rivers.

    No wonder teams average 65 points against the Dees in 2021..

    Fritta was good, but also simply at the end of some exquisite play and delivery from our mids. Did very well to take his chances…

    Trac by a mile… then Fritta, I’d have personally rated Oliver and Salem higher than they were.

    Yes, Fritsch was voted second best by all judges:

    • Luke Hodge (Chair) – C Petracca, B Fritsch, C Oliver.
    • Harry Taylor – C Petracca, B Fitsch, C Salem.
    • Tania Armstrong – C Petracca, B Fritsch, C Oliver.
    • Andrew Krakouer – C Petracca, B Fritsch, C Daniel.
    • Callum Twomey – C Petracca, B Fritsch, C Oliver.

    On any other day the medal would be with Bayley.  We could have won if he didn't kick 6.  But, I doubt we would have won if Petracca hadn't put on his "I'm not going to let us lose this game" face and then went to town.

    Fritsch kept us in it early taking every opportunity and they both turned the tide but Petracca won the arm wrestle and then broke the arm.

    Tx PRB. Salem took the most Mark's in the team but usually they are mostly the quick chip out of defence. Not taking anything away from him, he was terrific but I reckon Oliver was better with ten tackles and work in the clearances.

    But although he had less possies I would actually put Angus in front of them. He played his heart out, put his body on the line time after time and chose the granny to play the best game of his career and kicked true for once😁 which put us back in front.

    I remember saying to someone in his first season that the way Fritsch moved reminded me of Tulip, only to receive eye rolls in return.

    Part of the reason I was happy to see him move up the field later, but no one can deny his place is in the forward line now.

    Just shows if you have good or very good or special footballers in most positions you win the flag. Especially when they play together ruthlessly as a team!

    He fills the gaps of the leading lanes that either Brown or Tmac (Weid) create. His assets are his hands and his leap and his read of the play, and then the silk of his kick - he is highly highly regarded with AFL circles, as has been for a few years.

    The question for each coach, is about how they allocate their own assets. Once Brown and Tmac (Weid) has been covered off (as each have shown they can kick multiple goals many times throughout the year - who is left to cover a fairly unique player who isn't tall, but plays tall... he's on to the 3rd best defender, who is a mid size, who wont typically have the leap or is deficient in other attributes.

    Fritsch's body of work ALSO means that defenders are well aware of his ability- so defenders also have to second guess whom to commit to - giving both their own defender AND Fritsch, often enough time (milliseconds) to react to the flight of the ball moreso than the defender who is 'panicked' about whom of the 3 (or 4 if Jackson/Gawn floats down) is the bigger aerial threat.

      A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

      Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

      Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road.       The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.
