Good afternoon Demonlanders, Great to be alive isn't it? The GLOW has not faded as yet after 2 weeks and nor should it for the rest of our lives!!

Just thought I would take Demonlands 6 - 1 Vote system and seeing based on my own personal votes from each final, who the player of the finals series was, very subjective I know but what the heck, there's not much to do in Funkydanlockdowntown!

Just my opinion of course! Tracc and Max could rightly be in this position, happy to hear others opinions on this! Cheers P.F

Hard to argue with your top 3 Picket but I think you’ve undersold Viney.

The Brisbane QF match was a fair while ago now so it’s easy to forget but he was enormous in that game.

Even in the GF it’s not until I’ve watched the replay 3 or 4 times lol that you realise how pivotal he was.

Had him in at 7 but could easily have been in for 1 or 2 votes that game!

Coaches votes were:

    QF PF  GF
Petracca 7 6 10 23
Oliver 10 4 5 19
Gawn  1 10 0 11
Salem 0 6 2 8

Lever had 3 vs Lions, Viney had 3 vs Cats and there was a few 1 votes for other dees.

Unfair to pick out a top five as it was a superb team effort. Salem played a blinder in the Granny for example!

Only trouble is Max's effort in the prelim should have been a 15

Whats a blinder?

We knew the top blokes were going to be fantastic, but what about Sparrow proving finals is not a barrier and young Bowey who also proved he was up to it !

Spargo , ANB  as well

Viney & Gus .........the list goes on .

Actually you are not going to believe this, because I thought the finals was best of five (just like NBA) and we won the first three by exactly the same score...........resounding !!! ( How come Foxtel was the only broadcaster for the final 2 games.

Seriously?  It's a term for an excellent performance in a game and a well-known phrase at that.

Oliver is stiff to only get 5 coaches votes in the grand final. I would normally say I must have been watching a different game but given I have watched the replay enough times it amazes me.

They are all champions in my eyes but here's a bit of data to mull over.  Weighted average scores from the three finals.

I usually add about 0.70 to Maxy to allow for his hit outs to advantage which would bring him into about 5th posi here and something a tad less for LJ.  Say about 0.30 bringing him up to around 11th?

Finals Edition 2021 - The Immortals

Player Score Rank
C Petracca  5.950 1
C Oliver  5.358 2
Jack Viney  4.983 3
C Salem  4.975 4
Alex N-Bullen  3.842 5
Ed Langdon  3.475 6
Max Gawn # 3.350 7
A Brayshaw  3.275 8
Jake Lever  3.025 9
J Harmes  2.942 10
T Sparrow  2.742 11
Jake Bowey  2.625 12
L Jackson # 2.617 13
B Fritsch  2.583 14
Ben Brown # 2.508 15

Steven May  1.925 18
H Petty  1.742 19
K Pickett  1.558 20
M Hibberd  1.500 21
Joel Smith * 1.350 22
T McDonald # 1.325 23
Average Team Score - Top 22 66.54

In the table I showed players who voted in more than one final.

Fritsch got 8 votes in the GF.  Only so many votes to go round.

18 were drafted and developed by the dees and, of the top 10, eight were home grown.

All 18 earned and deserved their place in the team on GF day. There were no easy spots or players making up the numbers.

Only 5 out of 23 came from other clubs. But what a five - May, Lever, Langdon, Brown and Hibbert. Three AAs, a champion goalkicker and the best wingman in the league.

Kudos to the club.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
