Farewell Luke Jackson

His mother’s comments only further solidify my thinking that Jackson is not making the decisions, his family is. It annoys me no end that this was clearly always on the cards for Jackson and yet we missed out on Cerra last year when Freo had a much better trade position.

WA is a fishbowl. Very few go back on giant contracts and with big expectations and succeed. Kelly. Hogan. The list goes on and on.

If Jackson has strong ties with his family, and particularly connected relationships with his parents, then that is fantastic. Well done to the parents for fostering such a connection.

Family matters deeply, and so it should - and it's great that he can recognise it and also get gainful employment in an industry that he is competent at and in a location that he desires.

We would already have Young if we hadn't wasted pick 3 on this turkey

And no 2021 flag.

Luke or his Mum….

Didn't think of that, when does a player's parents say the usual parting words before the actual player does?

Exactly. Luke has said nothing….

So she should

Really? Incredible.

He helped us win a flag. Can’t ask more than that. The boy wants to go home, his family want him home. And life in AFL can be very short with high risk of injury influencing trade worth and long term remuneration. Sorry to see him go because he has the potential to be a champ but understand and accept his decision. Most people would make the same decision.

So she shouldn't be grateful. Rubbish

Didn’t want to lose him, will be a fantastic player. Good luck young man.

Dees surely must demand no less than;

Freo - Young and Pick 13

West Coast - Pick 2 and 20

Agree with both!

Obviously I don't know what personal factors might be part of his decision, but on the face of it it seems a strange choice by Jackson if you ask me.

To add to your point about the fish bowl he is about to jump into, Jackson is going to have to make one of the longest internal national flights in the world every second week ie Perth to the east coast.

Five hour round trip in a plane would be hard core for a player his size. I remember hearing pavlich say that was the toughest part of his career (amazing he played 300 plus games).

Surely the smart play was a two year contract, eek out whatever success he could at the dees, learn the craft under maxy, and then head home if still keen.

Lots of compelling reasons to stay, listed here.

I guess though, when you weigh them up against some PlayStation 5 with your homies in a Cottesloe McMansion, they’re just not compelling enough.

Oh I forgot...! If Freo really really want Dogga. Add Meek to the list.

This doesn’t sit quite right….

Too soon Melissa, please let us digest your decision for your son until the end of the week at least.

Not sure how that is relevant here. There are a lot of fiercely independent people who cut the apron strings, well below that age.

Yeah you're probably right on the first point. 👌

Just wait for that peanut Hutchy to start banging on again about WC walking Jackson through to the preseason draft so they can pick him up for nothing 🤬

Depends on if you believe people on Demonland I guess...

Who cares who made the decision. He helped us win a premiership and now the decision is made. Lets just hope we can maximise the trade.

and the inane posting (mine included).

Here's an idea, maybe he's waiting til he's actually traded before making a statement about being traded? Just a thought. Continue ranting about his family though with no factual basis...

Max said himself that Jackson turned the game

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
