Back in a trade or good news coming?

Both I guess. It does seem funny that it would put Darcy in a tradable situation.

I really hope Jackson and Bradshaw re-sign - this whole thing leaves a bit of a bad taste after the fairy-tale that was last year.

That said, I have every confidence that JT will turn whatever compensation we get into (at least) two very good replacements for them.

The club needs to make a statement about the two players currently sucking the mojo out of the group. What the ... is going on pls?

Online reports say Brayshaw’s management is in Melbourne this week to work with Melbourne on a new deal beyond 2022. The sooner that is done the better. As for Jackson, I think 4 weeks out from the end of the season, the Club has the right to ask him to declare what he is doing next year. They don’t need to announce it. However, it may actually be a weight off his shoulders and allow him to play some decent footy before finals.

Hopefully no lockdowns and TP hoarding, he's gonna need it.

If they don't need to announce this, maybe it's already happened?

There's media whispers that Freo's clearing the decks to make room for Jacko is upsetting some of the natives.  Longmuir thinks Lobb will be at Freo next year (though I wouldn't expect him to admit that he's a trade target, but he did seem genuine when he said it), so I do wonder if Darcy might be in the mix being a Vic boy.

I'd trade Jacko for Darcy if it came to that.

100% Grazman. If he's a good fit and helps prolong our successful period then I couldn't give a stuff about losing a generational talent.

For the here and now he's a better ruck, a better contested mark and a better forward target.  It would release Max to play more time forward (where I think he's actually our best tall forward).

Doubt we get Meek as well, but we could get a Blake Acres or a future second round draft pick to trade for someone like a Kieren Briggs or Matthew Flynn (considering the rumours of Grundy going to GWS)

if so then an aware coach wouldnt play him!

One, the coach might not be aware. I certainly haven’t telegraphed my plans to move jobs before I had to.

Two, he might not care. Even when I’ve quit jobs my bosses have all made sure as [censored] they get their pound of flesh out my notice period and why would footy clubs be any different?

Playing football isn’t like a typical job. It is played out in the public arena, where a brand is built.

And if he has indeed ‘checked out’, that says a lot about him competitiveness and commitment to his teams, while playing for a team that is 2nd on the ladder and in a match against an arch rival

Mate, football is a job like any other, public or not. We fans think it’s way more than it is.

You're not suggesting this is acceptable are you?

In that case he's got a notice period of 2 months to go and the company is better off walking him out of the building.

Oh I think it’s just human nature.

and plenty of companies do exactly that.

I think by memory some past Demon player didn't want to sign on like Jackson . This player was dropped from the seniors. The player might have been Rivers ( the one who went to Geelong) or it could be the midfielder who went to Carlton. Does anyone else know of this occurrence ? Yes I am suggesting Jackson gets dropped at the end of the home and away matches if he hasn't signed. Brayshaw should be played up forward thou he is a good backman . I also thought we were going to turn Rivers into a midfielder like Hodge ex Hawks.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
