Just remember...! Freo demanded Pick 2 from Gold Coast for Weller. Whom they selected Andy Brayshaw.

I say we ask for Picks 1 & 2... 😆 And Andy Brayshaw.

One media pundit (I'm sure it was Barrett) actually said that we can't ask for much, because he won us a flag. And the fact he was previously pick 3 doesn't matter  ecause we've got our return.

Given this is the calibre of people working in the footy media, I'm not holding out much hope of a reasonable discussion on his worth.

Not a fan of Purple, but that's not what he said.

He said the Dees 'got their reward' for being brave and picking him at #3 by his contribution to winning a flag.

Said nothing about not asking for much, in fact he didn't even address his trade value - so either you've got your wires crossed with whom said certain things or you've added a fair bit of mayo there.

Too true Deet. Throw that at the feather cap wearing buffoon and see what comeback he surmises

Is that what I said?

Pretty naive to think the club hasn't already spoken with prospective clubs and begun negotiations based on potential outcomes. Do you believe clubs wait until 9am on the first day of trade period to start talking?

This has absolutely no relevance or meaning in the context of the discussion. What is even the point?

How will Freo get a top 10 pick this year? Why would we think a pick that could potentially be 14-18 next year would top off the deal?

Of course clubs talk before trade period. But it's idiotic to think that Andy Brayshaw would leave Fremantle when Gus has already said that he's entrenched in WA. It's also idiotic to think that we would waste our time asking for Andy Brayshaw.

My 2nd point of us finalising deals quickly is totally relevant if we are pursuing a big fish ourselves with whatever draft capital we get from Freo.

I don't know what you think Luke Jackson is worth, but I can guarantee that we won't be getting anything near 2 top 10 picks from Freo.

Interesting report in on MMM Perth this morning with Lachy Reid (demon man) who says Freo are clearing the decks for the arrival of Jackson, Acres and Logue and Lobb all getting substantially less in terms of contracts than ithey should. Says Demons not interested in Players and it could take 3 first round picks for Jackson.

He is just another clown in the media.

I went back to listen and while I may have paraphrased poorly, I don't think you can argue it wasn't in the context of what he is worth. They were clearly talking in the context of him likely leaving, and clubs asking what their reward for taking a player like Jackson at three. They weren't talking about taking a tall early. They are clearly talking about taking a player who then wants to leave after three years. And that is a legitimate question in regards to what he is worth, in that we took him at pick 3 and what do we have to show for it if he leaves? So I took his response "They got their reward" in that context.

Do you hate everyone that says anything remotely negative about the Melbourne Football Club?

No, the context was we got reward for drafting him where we did.

Barrett: 'How you'd crunch that deal to get it done, you're in the space more than I am... I'll leave that (his trade worth) to the Dockers and the Demons'

Yeah look, I'm not interested in arguing with you, LN. You took what he said one way, I took something else out of it. Yay for us.

No just the wankers in the media or I could say I detest the media in general.

The suggestion is that Freo will have to lose players, deal with other clubs to get early picks and then on sell to us..

I imagine it will be Tim Kelly like, have to be a top 10 pick (Freo will need to acquire from other clubs by trading out players) Freos original first rounder (pick 15-18 range and possibly next years First rounder as well.

Jackson is 21, has 12 years ahead of him, this aint getting done for much less.

And won't even hit his peak for 5 years.

With each passing day my emotional attachment grows less and less. I'd like him to stay but if his heart isn't in it then we have to move on.

An extension of 2 years has been mentioned. Does it even make sense to develop him for another 2 years when there’s every chance he bails on us anyways and we’re back to square one, looking for a replacement for Maxy?

Would like to hear what Freo are prepared to offer. Perhaps this years first (i assume they haven't traded already) and their future first gets the job done. You’d fancy JT to unearth one top quality player with those 2 picks

A lot can change in 2 years. I would think the club would be confident to extend even further at that point.

We need a top 5 pick for LJ and and given his potential another late first round or early 2nd. The points worth is not an appropriate conparison as we would most likely use the first pick to chase the best KPF available and they go early. The 2nd pick would probably look at a ruck or KPD.

As much as I’d hate to lose Brayshaw, and I don’t think he’d leave, he is in fact excess to our needs. We can cover for him at HB and on the defensive wing and in the midfield. He would also demand a 1st round pick (mid to late).

Having 2-3 1st round picks would be phenomenally good for us and allow us to restock our lists with quality players and be relevant and playing finals for the next decade.

I thought we were going for a certain three peat and the following 5 years in the window were a " given".

I know we're loading and not showing our hand before the finals but has something changed that I am not aware of.

Club will ask for Andy Brayshaw, which to me is the obvious explanation why Gus hasn't made a call yet IMO.

That doesn't mean we'll get him mind you, but that's what MFC will ask for as a starting point in negotiations.

If Freo give us Brayshaw as part of any Jackson trade, we'll have to give up more. Way more. Freo isn't giving up one of the top 5 players in the game for a 20 year old who will barely crack top 15 in the B&F. Just a reality.

Freo are in a premiership window. Why would they give up their best mid and most important player for a developing ruck? That would be a really stupid move that would make them a worse side.
It just won’t happen unless Brayshaw demands a trade, which considering he’s in contract seems unlikely.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
