We are grateful you were able to re-focus your efforts and lift when all was on the line. Game changing moment, I suspect will be forgotten in the fullness of time by all but us die-hards.

Yeah goody said on the sunday footy show they were trying to find a way to get JJ on but cramping doesn't fall under a medical reason to put the sub on. In all fairness may had a reason but he wouldn't have wanted to come off

I'd put the move into the 'beg forgiveness rather than ask permission' category.

Can't imagine the AFL would sully the fairytale with a public rap over the knuckles  At worst it would be a fine.

I would have given JJ a run and worry about the AFL

Fair point, but these Angels are in red-hot form now and on a roll.

I haven't slept properly for a week and only need 1 coffee to get going for the past 2 days.

Soak it in Demonland!

Seeing the post-game scenes makes it a little bittersweet from here in Melbourne but nothing will take away from Maxy and the boys bringin it home!!

I think the biggest mistake was the doggies tactic in the 3rd quarter to control the tempo at slow play .

It kinda worked but was always going to be met with a big swing - they should have gone kamikaze and really put as away .

they went slow and steady then we went nuclear .

disclaimer will need to watch sober to confirm .

Expand

Re their attempts to control the tempo.  The umpires consistently applied the 15m rule which thwarted their attempts to control the tempo.

When called to 'play-on' it stopped the bulldogs in their tracks, confusing them into a turnover and threw their ball movement out of whack.   Played right into our hands.

An indirect way of good umpiring helping us.

I would need to check the replay but iirc after Bontempelli kicked his third goal in the 3rd qtr (and celebrated it as if the NSM and the premiership were his) I think he went to the bench.

It coincided roughly with Petracca coming back on (Choco had whispered motivational words in his ear) so they were under prepared for the CB's that followed.  Petracca and co did the rest.

I watched this section of the game 5 or 6 times last night haha. Bontempelli was off for the first Petracca clearance, but was then head to head with him for the rest of that patch. He couldn't stop him. It was glorious.

The second half of the third quarter will quickly become part of MFC folklore.  It won't be long before we all know the order and details of all those 7 goals by heart.  As someone who has dreamed of witnessing perfect footy (often to my own detriment of enjoying the less than perfect), that was as close to perfect as could be imagined.  My kids and I were in absolute ecstasy.

We did Brisbane by 33, Geelong by 83 and WB by 74.  Total winning margin 190 points.  My son and I thought thas was a wonderful way to bury the pain of 186.

Thank you Darren Burgess.

Our fitness has gone to another level this season and it showed. The boys could run all day.

Wish you were sticking around but understand why you want to be in Adelaide.

Choco was rather coy about what he whispered to Petracca; it sounded a bit like he was appealing to Petracca's ego.  It worked!!

As you say he got the first clearance.  Then he looked unstoppable.  The next time we saw a close up of him (for a fraction of a second somewhere in the 2 Fritsch, Brown and Brayshaw goals sequence) he wore a fierce expression.  He didn't look satisfied with that handful of goals.  Then he went on a rampage.

Just shows what having coaches on the bench can do.  It is unlikely Choco's message coming thru headphones would have had the same affect.

Not hollow, but bittersweet not being able to share it in person with the mates that I normally go to the footy with - texts going back and forth, but not quite the same. Afterwards I wondered if this is what's it's like to be looking on from above?  Being able to observe it but not quite touch it.

Saying that, the photos coming through from WA Demons really helps with the connection. Please keep up the good work.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere as the threads are so long, but the motivation to back up next year and win a premiership on the MCG and leapfrog Hawthorn and Richmond in to 4th place on the premierships table is fairly powerful stuff.  And then the Pies would loom in to view......

I wouldn’t say I was hollow but I know what you mean.

My real emotion was when we when we kicked 3 quick ones to close to within a point in the 3rd after looking nearly gone. And then the other 3 goals in a min at the end of the 3rd. These patches will be my ever lasting memories of day we broke the drought.

Does anyone think Bontempellis head high bump on Oliver will get looked at in the 2nd qrtr?

Expand

His eyes were fixed on the target, he lowered his shoulder to be the implement of injury to Oliver, he hit Oliver (playing the ball low and cleverly) at maximum force - head high, smack, thud.

It won't even be commented upon - even though everyone could see it about to happen, as it happened, as Oliver cowered post-event in considerable pain, gathering his senses. Tough nut, sure. Played on. The rules of the game say deliberate impact events like that one MUST be penalised ... so who threw out the rule book?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
