Reportedly, theĀ AFL is desperately trying to Ā cobble together oneĀ final round for theĀ weekend ofĀ AugustĀ 21 and 22 with the usualĀ top eight finals format starting a week later. Mostly in the hands of Chairman Dan and other State Premiers although I doubt that Gladys will have much input.

The current teams outside of Victoria in the top 8 are Southport and UWS Giants although thatā€™s also an interesting question because some clubs have played more games than others. They would probably have to work out the ladder on a match ratio basis.

Sadly KC this competition is a disaster. I want caseyĀ  to play simply so our players can have a run before finals. But I doubt it will happen.Ā

They finally worked it out with a full round to take place on the weekend of 21 and 22 August, Covid19 & state governments willing. Ladder to be decided on a match ratio basis and Casey Demons playing Carlton at some date, time and venue to be decided.

Good luck with all of this.

I suspect that youā€™re right and that even if they could get the final round or part thereof across the line, itā€™s still problematic because of the two non-Victorian teams left in the top eight. Southport have had the softest draw possible but thereā€™s nowhere to hide at finals time. Would the Queensland government make allowances to let a VFL team into their state? The Covid19 protocols for such sides would be somewhat different depending on the numbers of part time footballers involved.Ā Will the Giants be able to cobble together a team if they make the finals?

If they do get round 22 across the line, thereā€™s going to be an intriguing battle between Geelong and Casey for a top four spot which will be decided by percentage assuming both beat teams well below them. However, that will depend on whether those clubs have full contingents available. Casey didnā€™t have that luxury a couple of weeks ago when they had a number ofĀ MFC players held back from the team who were on a quick round turn flight back from Queensland on the same day. There will be an element of randomness and luck deciding finals placing. Not ideal.

I would love to go to another CaseyĀ  game this year. Going to the Werribee game reminded of how much I enjoy going to football. No amount of TV coverage can compare. Start dreaming about 2022 I guess.Ā

Good lord what a mess, it was messy before this year with different clubs having allegiances but using them in different ways. Now in COVID times with it spread across state borders it's just impossible to work.

Really sucks too because it's important for development and older players getting a last chance at pushing their case.Ā

You have to feel for the players trying to get an AFl gamešŸ˜¬

and the afl clubs trying to develop players and judge who is best to promote

Do we know if AFL clubs are running matches like they did last year in QLD.

Big advantage for Port and WCE come finals with most of the final 8 sides not getting any game time into fringe and players returning from injury.

The final Casey game of the season, if it takes place,Ā will not be against the Northern Bullants but rather, against Carlton at a date, time and venue to be decided.
