Just try it......

“I want to see Daniher put a knee into the back of Gawn when Gawn decides to drop back in the hole in our forward 50. We can't let him drift back and take marks untouched, we at least need to make him earn it and expect there to be heavy contact coming.”

This is what a lions supporter posted on Lions big footy page on Sunday.

None of that is too unreasonable.

I prefer it when opposition supporters are feral flogs ...

More from big footy;

“Number of goal kickers for Melbourne round 7 to 11 -
7 5 8 11 8 average 7.8
and for us 9 11 10 9 13. Average 10.4
simply doesn’t matter who they shut down, we can still get goals. Them, not so much.
might be another night for Mitch and matho to shine.”

Matho??

“They have a very good top 3 as do we, overall looks pretty even, who ever wants it more will get on top.
Some possible match ups? >
James Madden > Kysaiah Pickett.
Harris Andrews > Sam Weideman.
Marcus Adams > Tom McDonald.
Brandon Starcevich > Bayley Fritsch.
LIONS to slay the Demons.”

Dogs can be easily rattled with high pressure around the ball, we will thrive in that but need to make sure we don’t have a lazy start like we did against the Tigers the week before.”

“I'd like us to recognize where Gawn is and kick it to another option where he isn't. I've seen a few of the Melbourne games so far this year & it never ceases to amaze me that he is often at the drop of an opposition kick. Oliver for me is the most dangerous with Petracca close behind. I believe we stop those 3 and we will win.”

“Andrews on Weideman. Adams on McDonald. Lester on Fritsch. Starcevich on Pickett. McStay to play a defensive forward role on Lever - stop him from intercepting marks.”

“Langdon is a big out for them.Wins a lot of ball and provides a great run around the ground. I wouldn't risk Neale, with the bye coming up give him that extra couple weeks rest. We can afford to rest him another week winning 7 straight.”

“The one side who were able to beat Melbourne this year, did so by taking the game on through the middle of the ground and using their run and handball game to break run through the zone. I don't think we have the personnel off half back to successfully play a similar way. I suspect we're going to rely on Rich and Birchall hitting up a player in the middle of the zone to break it up, or continue to go down the line and hope we at least 50/50 the contest.”

Agree but most of their other payers aren't. I was at Metricon last year us V Lions and all they did was bump, push, scrag Gawn off the ball all game. Umpires did nothing so no doubt they will do same and we can only hope the Umpires do something this time.

Only one guarantee - we will be swearing at Rhys “Free Kicks: 15-2” Mathieson when he gets his 8th free kick for dropping the knees.

They have some really hitable heads in their team don't they Matho, Robbo, Danners, Bails.

Who is in their top 3 they refer to? I don't expect Neale to play.  Zorko, McCluggage ???  I strongly prefer Petracca and Oliver.

They are a very very good side, and much more even across the ground than the Dogs, who outside of their midfield are only average.

IMO they could easily snag the flag this year, and we must show the same intensity and application as we did against the Dogs, or we will get cut up.

No Langdon is a massive loss. I really don't know if we can win it without him. Need some massive games from our small forwards to ensure we keep the ball locked inside our forward 50 as much as possible, so the Lions don't go for a quick kick down the wing to try and open us up without Langdon.

Langdon was quiet last week and we won?

Bricks. Old yellow bricks, crumbling with age in a garden-wall; the sweet breath of young cows standing in a mountain-stream; the lead roof of a dove-cote — or perhaps a granary — with the mid-day sun on it; black kid gloves lying in a bureau-drawer of walnut-wood; a dusty road with a horses’ drinking-trough beneath the sycamores; little mushrooms bursting through the rotting leaves; and — and — and — not parsnips.

There are two points of difference between the sides: 1. They have more goal kicking options; 2. We have Gawn.  I expect they'll come hard at Max, as they did last year.  How the team handles that will tell us a lot.  I like our defensive match ups on their forwards and our system should hold firm against their style.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
