If it wasn't already clear, the commentary this week about AZ being phased out is an acknowledgement that by October Australia's over 60 population will have been fully vaccinated, meaning there will be no more use for AZ.

it is not a commentary about AZ being phased out of use for people for whom it can otherwise be used.

The situation in nsw is awful for tbe whole country. I'm sick of the lack of a federally coordinated respons to all of this, including lockdowns. 

And I'm sick of how decisions such as when and how to impose restrictions and lockdowns are often overly informed by ideology and political considerations,.

And the Murdoch Mafia has a lot to answer for in this regard.

Maybe Peta credlin can go to some pressers in nsw and ask about how it escaped in the first place, how it spread so quickly and how effective or otherwise their gold standard contract tracing has gone.

I have to congratulate you Binman, for the most part I've agreed with your opinions (well, apart from the times where you have had strong opinions about my character), but you've done exceedingly well with the post above. I normally try to stay away from political comments as I find the arguments are too emotionally driven and generally people don't like their beliefs challenged. There will be many who read your comments and dismiss them as an attack on the Coalition Federal Govt. The crux of the matter is that the response to the pandemic should be apolitical and that starts with the Federal Govt leading and applying the laws as governed by The Commonwealth of Australia Constitution. Quarantine Laws and the administration of such is a Federal responsibility and in my opinion those who are supposed to lead seem to have abrogated that responsibility.

BRISBANE, 26 June 2021: Virgin Australia can confirm that a Sydney-based cabin crew member has tested positive to COVID-19 after undertaking a rapid result test this evening. State and Federal health authorities have been notified.

The affected crew member is a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case from a known cluster in Sydney. Virgin Australia understands the crew member was not aware they were a close contact of a positive case until after they completed their last flight today. 

NSW Health advises that five flights, as outlined below, on which the crew member flew from 24 June 2021 are of concern. The crew member may have been infectious during that time. 

The crew member also had an overnight layover in Melbourne on 25 June 2021, staying at the Holiday Inn Express Southbank. While in Melbourne, the crew member remained in hotel isolation under prescribed COVID protocols for overnighting crew members from New South Wales.

I can't help but feel there is a major country-wide outbreak on the cards.

NSW has let Sydney's outbreak get too far away from them, then a miner potentially exposes hundreds of people who have dispersed across multiple states and territories, and now a crew member flies up and down the eastern seaboard despite not knowing they were a close contact (critical to find out why that is - was this person ignorant and not checking, or were they missed by contact tracers and weren't notified).

If the infection rate increases there becomes a stronger argument to get AZ into more people under the age of 60, but that will never happen given the damage to AZ's reputation that the federal government has allowed to happen.

Blame Gladys or Dan all you want, far and away the two major reasons we're in this boat are hotel quarantine and the vaccine rollout.

After reading the covid news this morning with a little Luck Victoria could be hub for the AFL this season. Qld and NSW out with cases, Tas,SA and WA locked up tighter than a drum. Vic it is then.

Jon Ralph and Eddie on Fox Footy have been going OTT hyperbolic with their statements about the AFL being close to crisis with COVID.

However, they are raising issues worth considering.

We know players don't want hubs, and we know the AFL has told players hubs are a last resort. Eddie's suggestion was that the AFL will do another "footy frenzy" to get a stack of games played in a short period, which limits the time the NSW and WA clubs may have to spend out of their home states, so that they can then go home to be with their families for a 2-3 week period, presumably during which the competition takes a break.
