That worries me.

When we win the flag next year it will always have an asterix given only 16 teams played.

I could not give two hoots binman!

I note that McGowan didn't actually say June. Rather, that's how Sky News reported it. He actually said first half of the year, so it could open on 1 January 2022.

In its history Sky News have never let the truth get in the road of a good story.

If they said it was daytime I would go outside and check.

To be fair to Sky News, I think most news services would have reported it in the same way. Our media always likes to go with the most extreme version of events. Says as much about the susceptibility and gullibility of the audience as it does about those who determine what we see and hear as "news".

In all seriousness, one of the unintended, really positive, consequences of having to play the GF at Optus is that for this group of players heading across to play the Eagles and Freo will be a complete joy and a trip they will look forward to, not far.

Imagine the vibe and the buzz of playing on the ground where you had beaten West Coast late in the season, trounced the Cats in a prelim then experienced the ultimate football dream in winning a grand final. Bliss

And the booing?

Well for one, that may well feel juts like a curio to players now - bring it on.

And two we might well have more dees fans in WA now - even if it is freo fans supporting us against the Eagles and vice versa.

Yep ironic isn't it,

Lost the Semi over there in 91'

Prelim in 94'

Semi in 2006

Prelim in 2018

On reflection LDC it was Fox news I was thinking off. Apologies to Sky.

Plus we don’t want to restrict games at our new home away from home - Optus Stadium

I know you're taking the micky but MFC playing games at Optus reeks of another winter long lockdown in Victoria in 2022.

I’ve been to the barber and eaten out once since restrictions eased. Both times I walked in off the street, no booking, wasn’t asked for my green tick. No obvious capacity management either. Compliance is loose at best from what I’ve experienced so far

And yet I've had quite the opposite experience. Green tick checked at a pub and 4 cafes/restaurants, also other retailers nearby. Local barbers have distanced queues down the street. I make a point of complimenting any business I use that is doing the right thing.

That's disappointing.  You'd think people would know better after all we've been through.

Of course, if this causes things to go all pear-shaped again, no doubt the Government will be pilloried.

Do the right thing, people.  Working together is our only chance to control this virus.

A tough watch but a small insight into how Fox News was born

If you believe it all even the Murdoch clan couldn't control the errant child

Ha! Not really, a pub and 4 cafe/restaurant visits in almost a week is tame, I would've thought. Pre covid it would've been 4 pubs! 🍺

Nearly 2,000 infections today and 25 deaths, how's that working out for you?

I'm double vaxxed and I'm all for others to get the jab but we are opening now because the Government realised that keeping us locked up was useless.

You've completely missed the point in your rush to bash anything to do with Labor.

What I'm saying is that people will always look for somebody else to blame when their lives are impacted even if it is their own selfish and thoughtless behaviour that caused those problems.  In this instance, that behaviour is the loose compliance by business operators that BDA has observed.

This isn't about politics or which party is in power.

Yes it is, we've handled the pandemic appallingly in Victoria.

We've had, more cases, more deaths, harsher restrictions and longer lock downs than any other State.

So someone has effed it up, who would you blame, shopkeepers, Restaurateurs, Publicans?

I'll say it again and, this time, perhaps move your lips and read slowly in an effort to understand.

I'm talking about the possibility of the recent re-opening being jeopardised by people not observing the COVID compliance practices and the anticipated kneejerk response to blame the Government if such slackness were to cause a setback in our progress towards something approaching normality.

Sigh! you really are naive.

Andrews doesn't need any excuse to lock us down again, stop trying to shift the blame on the retailers and restauranteurs, if he wants to lock us down again it will haver nothing to do with compliance or non compliance.

I'm not interested in continuing this debate, your lips move far to slowly for my liking.

How do you think Victoria has managed Covid compared with other non-Australian locations?

Um, yes. I'm interested in knowing what your parameters for success and failure are. For example, if Victoria is the worst State in Australia but still better than 95% of the rest of the world (and I'm not saying that it has been), is that still bad?

As someone who lives in a non-Australian location, we look on at the management in Australia and Victoria with envy.

Even adjusting for population, European countries have seen death rates 30, 40, 50 times what you've had in Oz - comparative figures which would have been even (much?) higher if Scotty from marketing hadn't fkd up the vaccination program. And don't start me on lockdowns, god we've had them and then some over here as well.

Yes, you only need to the look at the UK to see where that leads. Everyone I've come across who has visited the UK from Europe recently is shocked by how slack they are, and with predictable consequences: a Covid rate around 10 times what we're seeing in most EU countries.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
