At this point you just play and deal with the uptick in cases as the day that WA moved away from elimination strategy for the price of a GF.

Going to have to do it at some point, vaccines available, plenty of time to prepare.

Sure if this happened in Melbourne there’d be 64 cases by GF day but Lady Luck has smiled on every major Australian city not known as Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra since the pandemic began.

I see today that the Vic government has generously allowed 10,000 patrons into the Melbourne Cup. That would hardly cover training staff, broadcasters and owners. In that light it is hard to see the MFC being able to have 30k+ at the G for any sort of celebration this side of next year. First we were being lockdown to save us, now we are being lockdown because the hospital system cannot cope. My god they have had 20 months to prepare for this and have it would appear done very little. I have a close relative who works in a hospital ICU department, she tells me there has been no changes to expand for increased patient levels since Feb 2020. I have no idea how she keeps fronting up for work every day. Back to the MFC, the  future for celebrations in the next couple of months looks bleak. 

Just hoping we can see the boys play at the G next year with a crowd.

Will be really annoyed if we’re hubbing interstate for a third year.

This narrative is absolute rubbish. There are surge plans right throughout the healthcare system that are being enacted (I am a healthcare worker). We are as prepared as we possibly can be. The nature of the virus makes caring for patients and keeping ourselves safe incredibly difficult. There is capacity to surge but it will be at the expense of elective capacity because the government and hospitals cannot do miracles.

Full capacity will rely on almost universal vaccination of the 12+ population. Only the no hopers talking about their freedumbs will probably never get vaxxed and ruin that dream for 2022 and 2023.

There are 126 occupied ICU beds out of an available 1476m beds

I know the Alfred has made available an extra 240 beds by re-organising space  and they have installed a new triage area to assist in any surge that might occur

We have one of the best health systems in the world and it will cope

There is plenty going on for those who want to know the facts

I know, but it's Victoria we're talking about it.

 

I think Victorians just living a normal life again would be an achievement at this point. We have been lucky in SA to enjoy the simple things.

I am not sure we will ever see "normal" again but a Covid normal would be very nice. From my friends and Rels I see now that people are on some levels just ignoring the advice now. They are well and truly over not seeing their family, they take reasonable precautions and then just do it. This is as true as I sit here typing I have one elderly friend who said to me "this is worse than dying I am vaccinated and I am not doing it any more I am seeing my family,  if I catch Covid and die so be it".

I hope you are right godees but my advice says otherwise. We are going  to find out shortly and I have to say that Government results at all levels so far leaves me with very confidence.

We will get to 90% fully vaccinated in the 12+ population by the end of the year in Victoria. We are almost at 90% for 16+, and the 12-15 year olds are getting vaccinated faster than any other age group, and they are working on approval for Pfizer for 5 year olds and over. 

I assume that games will continue to be ticketed to an extent. If you have a membership you'll need to link it to your vax certificate to get into the ground. If you don't, you'll need to provide it when buying a ticket online or at the gate.

There is no chance that we will continue to pause the state for 10% of people who are too stupid and selfish. Let them get sick and let them die of Covid. It is unfair to our incredible health care workers, but life has to go on for the sake of everyone's mental, financial and emotional health. 

Our case numbers are insanely high, but actually our hospitalisation numbers are well down on last year, where at our peak we had less than half the case numbers. Vaccines work, and they will enable us all to move on to a better future. I just hope that the absolute morons who think it is "their body their choice", don't come crying when their bodies are too sick to make the choice of breathing independently.

PSA - you can now download your vaccine certificate to the Services Victoria app (the same app used for logging in to shops, etc)

I've got an iPhone so I've already got it in my Apple wallet. If I understand correctly, though, there is no equivalent to a "wallet" in android phones, so I assume downloading to the Services Victoria app overcomes this dilemma.

I don't know the mechanics, but i suspect you'll have to show this certificate to get into the MCG, along with other places, next year.

They'll surely have full crowds with people having to sign in confirming vax status or medical exemption status. No way they can keep these restrictions going for a 3rd year, they'll be turfed out regardless of peoples political leanings.

Mate, pandemics don’t last forever. We’re going to see normal again. Not “CoViD-nOrMaL”, but plain old normal. Those who say otherwise don’t use their brain enough.

A lot can and should change in the next 2 months. 

I am confident we will have a celebration at the G of vaccinated fans with 10s of thousands attending in December 

the only thing i'm sure of is..........we are premiers..............yay!

Beware the Northern Winter

If Europe and the US have a bad covid winter (think 40 year old vaccinated people dying in numbers) with a new variant 2022 may resemble 2021

Hope I am very wrong but this time last year we all thought 2021 would be sunshine and roses.
