Another incredibly well done analytical article by the ABC, well worth the read

I thought the same when I read it this morning.  I don't know the authors but at last sports writers who actually analyse data and present meaningful information that provide great insights.  Their tables and graphs are multi-dimensional and worth taking time over.

The first graph 'On the Right Tracc' shows how good his 2021 season.  Best season in nearly every measure.

Mainstream sports commentators/writers can learn a lot from these authors.

Talking of which would someone like to send this to Cornes!  I doubt he will ever stop making platitudinal and banal football comments but he could learn a thing or two about making useful contributions to a discussion.

I'd recommend reading any of the articles written this year by those 2 authors on the ABC, they have been doing an amazing job

I’d never considered the aspect of player salaries inflating over time meaning that, relative to the TPP and average player salaries, the salary of players who sign long term deals actually shrinks as time goes on. If player salaries continue to grow in the way they have historically, it could be like the Lynch situation where it’s not that high a % by the end of the deal.

I wonder if the club has structured the contract to be as front-loaded as it afford? If I was Petracca I’d want that - access to more money earlier means I can start investing earlier and can build my wealth quicker. Obviously the club would benefit too with reducing salary cap pressure as the years go on.

Thanks for the article, a  good read

I love a good scatter plot graph.

Was just missing a box and whiskers chart and I would have been in heaven!

That is exactly why they did it.
each year the salary cap increases, Traccs contract becomes easier to pay ?

I'd hope so Nasher. Rather than reducing salary cap pressure, it's (hopefully) more a shifting of the salary cap pressure on to other players we can't afford to lose - Clarry will be looking for a significant contract in 2 years time as well as Rivers, Kossie and Jackson starting to move into the window of commanding a larger share of the pie.

I assume a lot of contracts would have clauses in it that contract would increase proportional to any salary cap increase?

This is what helps make a champion:

"Petracca has been using his day off each week not to study or play golf or surf or even sit at home on the couch playing FIFA. No, the superstar Demon has enlisted highly rated assistant coach Adem Yze as a personal coach to get extra work in...The two are usually dressed in plain clothes and head to an oval where they can work together for more than an hour on touch and craft.

Speaking of Yze, he’s fitted in seamlessly at Melbourne. Essendon was chasing him last year, but he couldn’t say no to returning to his old club. He wasn’t far off the Adelaide job which Matthew Nicks eventually won and judging by his lofty reputation at Hawthorn and Melbourne, his time for a senior gig might not be far away".

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
