Mark Robinson's Top 50

Featured Replies

It's not a terrible list.  Looking at the top 20, there are a few players in there on reputation rather than output, but it's mostly solid.  I think Dangerfield, Ryan, Grundy and Pendlebury are overrated based on last year's output.

Never heard of any of those pubs.

If Oliver could kick he'd be higher on the list.

That's not true Clarry  is a Good kick without being a classic style disposer.

That's not true Fork. Clarry is a good kick without a classic style and is an efficient disposer. Length is generally excellent.

We'll have to agree to disagree.
If he was better he'd hit more forward targets out've the middle and kick more goals.
Does have length on his kicks but boots in hope more often than not.
I'm not sold that any of our mids have really good disposal.
Not even Trac.

He’s a good kick

A top 50 which includes Daniher but not Franklin? Please.

Stubby on Robbo you absolute spanker.

Robbo does his stuff to sell papers and advertising. He’s a [censored] but he is doing his job.
Anyway who cares how high or low he rates Clarry- WE rate him. And so do the other 17 teams that will be making enquires. That’s all that matters

Can someone tl;dr the latest article Robbo has written about Melbourne? Can't access due to paywall.

key points are the messages the club has been selling all preseason

  • work much harder defensively
  • bring yr teammates into it
  • backline is sound, midfield and forwards are where improvement is really needed
  • expect many more rotations thru midfield in 2021
  • preseason focus has been on improved kicking skills in particular
  • gameplan focus is on becoming a forward-half side

This was the lead footy story in Robbo’s paper today. Footy journalism is flying.

There's a reason for this. It's a numbers game. People actually read this stuff.

I was working in the newsroom there about 5 years or so ago and the real-time data are shown on a giant screen so that every journo can develop a sense of what the audience wants.

It's easy to blame the messenger but every click is a vote for more of the same.

this would make more sense if we were talking of social media

if newspapers want to stay viable they need to differentiate themselves from this junk

otherwise tis just a race to the bottom (which it seems to be anyway)

Franklin's best is long behind him.  Daniher is worth far more if he can stay fit.

From an ethical standpoint, I agree 100%.

It won't happen though. Clicks are king in the world of corporate journalism.
