We should all be drinking only Aussie wine post China’s attack on our local industry.

looks like I’ve got another reason to drink bleasdale wines as well now!

Not that I need any excuse to drink wine but you’re right. A lot of small wine producers have been doing it tough between bushfires, Covid and now the effective closure of the china market. It’ll be Australian wines only in our household for the holiday period and beyond. I’ll definitely be giving some Bleasdale Shiraz a whirl as well.

Well done to the Dees who keep adding commercial partners during these financially tough times.

But lost Tyrells to have space for Bleasedale. Just swapping like for like.

Same here. I immediately thought to myself, ‘who the [censored] is this dude?’

And then I almost immediately discovered it’s actually a new club sponsor. My settings instantly turned to ‘thank you’. All good. I now have nothing but affection for this entity and will purchase this wine, whether or not I like it.

Why wouldn't you drink Australian wines? Best bang for buck in the world. What do you normally drink BDA? From where?

Any reason to drink Aussie wine is good for me!

Who is mostly responsible for bringing on all the new sponsors?  Is it Gary Pert? Who else?

Whoever it is is doing a tremendous job in the current climate.

Hats off to Tyrrells wines for being a sponsor for so long. Covid-19 hasn't helped their business and the PRC whacking on exorbitant tariffs I assume was a tipping point. Bleasdale welcome aboard. I just hope they make a pinot grigio, my favourite summer drop. But yes, good work on securing a new sponsor.

Agree.

Im a Scotch drinker, and dont have a huge affinity for wine, but i had saved a few links for different wines from Dan Murphys over the last few days for the reason you mentioned. Already searching online for some stuff from our sponsor instead.

Drink up everyone. Oz wines for the festive period !!

Australian wine is excellent no doubt.

Spent some time in South America, Argentina in particular, and developed a taste for the Argentinian Malbec variety. Chilean wines are very good as well. The missus prefers whites and likes her New Zealand sav blanc from the Marlborough region.

Not rocket science, just target companies/industries that have thrived during this time.  The wine consumption in my house has certainly increased, so we've ticked that box.

In the coming days I expect Sorbent to be announced as our next Back of Jumper sponsor...

Back of Shorts I would have thought.

I spent a week at Bleasdale one afternoon. We were asked to help ourselves. The result was not pretty. Great wine though, I still buy there Malbec.

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
