He's not the worst player going around and would purely be a back up who would cost nothing in terms of a trade and very little in terms of salary.

Imo, that is a better option than a) paying Preuss 400k a year to play at Casey or b) going anywhere near Shaun McKernan. Or even c) picking up Stef Martin who would take a decent enough chunk out of the salary cap similar to Preuss.

Martin wants to go to Essendon apparently, maybe that's why Phillips is available?

Not every trade is going to be a game changer.

With Preuss leaving, and with only the still developing Jackson and Bradtke as the only other rucks on our list, our ruck depth could seriously be tested if Max went down with an injury next season.

Sensible decision to bring him on board if it eventuates.

He is actually not a bad player if given ago... I would prefer him over McKernan.

Phillips is absolute rubbish. Why aren't we focussing on what we actually need instead of 'Break glass in case of Emergency' players. The only Phillips we should be targeting atm is Tom... FMD

Is Phillips the one on the left or is that Aaron Francis??

yes, one of what u said is correct lmao

i rang up trade radio earlier to ask the question of josh jenkins, not going to play at geelong and they need list spots, contracted for one more year. obviously a much more natural forward but could lead a pedo style twin ruck with Weid/LJ backing him up or even smith

Well i must be on my own here because I personally think he's a much better pick then Shaun McKernan.  His contested marking is one of his biggest strengths alongside his hit out to advantages.  In fact I rate his contested marking the best at the club if we were to recruit him.

I remember I watched the Collingwood and Essendon game in full length this year and he gave Grundy a serious tough up. Physically bullied him at the contest.

Not only that, he provides a far better marking option up forward then Pruess.

Interesting article last year on Phillips when he arrived at Essendon.

Not the Phillips I'd prefer this trade period but would give us some cover in ruck

Flip Preuss (who we have no real intention of playing in our starting 22) for a trade profit and get a cheap back up option for a nothing pick or as a DFA while saving some cap space in the process. Sounds good on my end.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
