Absolutely fair enough, but the Bombers in particular love to aim very high. they'd probably be asking for Oliver, Petracca, Gawn and May

and don't forget Viney.

Not sure what else Watson would say. Probably categorically confirmed Daniher would be staying too at some point I’m sure.

Yep, he did

I like Merrett but he's not really what we need is he? I'd have thought him a similar player to Viney with marginally better skills.

He is completely different.  Merrett is mainly just outside and has very good skills.  The bloke would compliment our midfield perfectly

Another lefty too. Very Hawthornesque.

I'd be willing to trade a best 22 player and a first round pick to get Zach Merrett into the side.

they need an inside midfielder so maybe there is a win-win to be had there with one of our guys.

It feels unlikely this one but he'd significantly improve our side in 2021. i rate him up there with any of our mids in terms of quality an he brings attributes that our team desperately needs.

Nope. if you want to pry a player of that quality out of Essendon, you've got to be prepared to pay up.

i 100% guarantee if Zach Merrett was a Melbourne player and Essendon were trying to poach him, Demonland would be universally saying a first round pick and a player, or two first round picks.

I don’t necessarily agree.  A first rd pick yes and maybe a fringe player but not one of our inside mids

Not suggesting Oliver and Petracca, but if i was offered Zach Merrett for our 2021 pick and say James Harmes or Angus Brayshaw i'd have a serious think about it. i think if you were going to deal with Essendon for Merrett and inside mid is probably all we have that would appeal really.

Your over valuing him here, a straight swap for Brayshaw or Harmes and a 2nd rounder but no way you’re swapping those blokes plus a 1st rounder.
Essendon needs an inside mid just as much as we need an outside mid.

They'd laugh at Harmes & a second, Brayshaw & a second might be more reasonable

Brayshaw is just as good as Merrett

I complete agree, but I look at Brayshaw as a complete waste in our side playing behind Viney.

We had a family zoom Saturday night and my aunty is related to the Danihers ( from her side of the family so we have no connections nor have I ever met Joe ) but she was asked about the Daniher thing and she mentioned that Joe won't be the only big name player. Merrett, Hurley and Hooker were others that were named.

There you go wasn't aware of that.

I'm always amazd that a player with the surname Daniher would even contemplate leaving the Bombers given the family history.

Given that, nothing else would surprise me coming out of that club re transfers. All the old stars, like lLoyd and Watson, will always mount a defence for the status quo. Daniher leaving , or even thinking about it, suggests otherwise.

The feeling im getting here is that there is not alot of love for Rutten and Caracella Combo?

Forget any of the Bombers players.

Caracella is the one I want at the Dees.

I jumped on bomberblitz to have a read of the general feeling amongst the Bombers supporters and Jesus H Christ that forum is an absolute debacle. Hard to read and follow what's going on, sometimes posts are replied to without the quote embedded etc their forum software is second rate. Made me appreciate Demonland even more ?? @Demonland

If Gus was up for the move, I'd definitely do Merrett for Gus. I'd keep Harmes, because I think he can play a more defensive role, which we lack in our midfield.

So then you have three elite mids in Oliver, Petracca and Merrett, supported by Viney and Harmes, and if we can get our mid connection working, being tapped to by a x4 AA ruckman... that's very juicy.

We really do overrate our own in here. In the last 4 years, Merrett has won 2 BF, finished runner up and come third. He is an All-Australian and 3 times made the Under 22 team of the year. He is a very, very good player who would instantly make our team better. He is an outside player who has been forced to play an inside role due to Essendon's needs. He would be our wingman for the next 8 years.

Apart from one good year, what has Brayshaw achieved? And people think a straight swap is fair? Crazy. Merrett was forced out of Essendon's leadership group last year by their players because he was considered too driven to succeed and he needed to work on building relationships with teammates. These are not problems Brayshaw has.

We would demand Brayshaw and a late first/early second round pick.

Thank you.

I'm taking that the nuffies who don't want him CLEARLY haven't watched him play. Exactly the type of player who would compliment our midfield perfectly.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
