Mentioned earlier this morning that I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out soon that Merrett will be assessing his options.

To me he is the perfect player for us. Has that great blend of inside and outside speed and skill.

If the above was to eventuate, I would think Melbourne will look at him closely.  Goody was his midfield coach and he's played with Melksham and Hibberd.

Keep an eye on this one.

Just gut feel or saying you've heard something?

Interesting Dazzle, I would have thought he’d be one of the least likely to leave Essendon. Any idea why he’d be looking at moving on? Dodo would want two first rounders and Oliver.

1000-1 chance of leaving the Bombers !!

Unfollowed Essendon on Instagram and removed them from his bio. He’s.Gone.Mate.

There was a fair bit of talk about in on bomber blitz about a week ago. One poster brought up that Merrit isn't happy (he got shot down pretty hard) but there was a bit of a discussion on it.

The OP mentioned carlton as a potential destination however. They then started saying the only way they do the deal is for Cripps.... Classic bombers

Would take our second rounder & future first....but probably worth it.

Add Hurley to that too. Also unfollowed Essendon and no longer lists them on his bio.

They would want 2 top 10 picks to even have a conversation about him, and that's probably the biggest hurdle i'd see if he did want to leave.

we probably couldn't sign Merrett and keep Viney IMO

Flawless logic, Ethan.

I mentioned something a while ago on this as a possible trade for one of our mids, not Oliver or Petracca...

...but they need what we have too much of and we need what they have too much of.

Think all parties would agree that a trade for Brayshaw would be beneficial for all, would maybe need to add a second rounder.

Would give up Gus and and a sweatener to make it happen. Love Gus but I don’t know if he gets back to his really good form if Viney re-signs.

Why would we give up one of our more outside, balanced mids to bring in Merrett?

Imagine Oliver, Merrett, Petracca. ?

Hurley is mates with May, Harmes, Hibberd and Melksham too. Interesting...

Haven't heard anything about this, but Merrett is the exact type of midfielder we're looking for. He's balanced both inside and outside with good kicking skills.

We'd need to give up a 1st round pick minimum or a good player plus something else. Brayshaw or TMac plus a pick would work for us...

As usual, I'm already enjoying the off season more than the season proper. Typical Melbourne. The trade season is the regular season for us poor mugs.

Backline: May, Hurley, Lever, Rivers, Salem, Saad.

Midfield: Oliver, Petracca, Harmes, Merrett, Viney

Forwardline: lacking...

West Coast 2006?

They can want two top 10 picks all they want but there isn't a chance they get two top 10s for him.

Imagine trying to negotiate with Essendope for Hurley, Saad and Merrett. god they would be next level delusional.

Wouldn't go anywhere near Merrett.

But only because we already have 3 ex-bombers on the list, and it takes way too much emotional energy to overcome my hatred of Essendon players (I've learned to love Hibberd and Brown, but can't quite warm to Melksham).

Seriously though, he would definitely add a point of difference to our midfield mix.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
