Our second tier players  in Hunt, ANB, Brown, and the youngy's in Rivers and Kossi  kept us in it.

Petrac, Clarry, , Langdon and Gawn   stood up as usual.  However  Lever had a great game IMO he steadied the ship all day.  Held the backline together while May was his usual best defending stoutly.

Nailed it. Altough Anb was mia 2nd half. I think he was injured.

Brown is no longer 2nd tier.

@Wiseblood Should have had it sewn up by 3QT, we were that dominant in the first half. Also had a good 3Q, but failed to capitalise: you just knew the Bombers would come back. I actually didn’t see the two Fritsch goals at the end, as I had to go for a walk, before my living room/television/soul got destroyed.

We showed some of our best, but also lacked the ruthlessness to put them away properly. Should have been going into the final quarter 8-10 goals clear.

Melksham was terrible - unbelievable tackle “attempts” - if we make it through, Jackson must come in. Also Joel Smith pretty poor again. Petracca, Hunt, Salem, Langdon, Oliver, May, Pickett, Brown, Rivers very good. Fritsch actually made some good leads, but should have buried a couple more of his shots.

So the Fremantle vs Bulldogs game is in... Cairns.

On one hand I think that favours Freo. They are based there in the hub and know the conditions well.

On the other hand... Cairns. [censored] that place. Seriously. [censored] [censored] that place.

If Freo get up I hope we bring Jackson in to provide some X-factor and a foil for Weideman up forward.

It'd be great too to see May play his first ever final.

Mazzy has been great or us this year, will be even better next year with us cheering him on at our home turf at the G?

Worth every penny.

As I said, I wouldn't have him in my team, but I don't think it's fair to say he didn't do his job in the first three quarters. For the most part, he did.

If that was his best defensive game l would hate to see his worst.

..and that's why we don't deserve finals.

No we didn't.  We won 69-48.

Go you beautiful dockers. My 2nd fave team?

Had to zap through to the end to make my point. We have won more games than we lost. Melksham has kicking abilities that are rare. Hunt proved a point. ANB has become one of our most reliable set shots. AVB continues to get the tough ball, Brown was a very good pick up for a back up! Lever's +'s outweigh any -v's. Goodwin has made a great recovery.... Which other coach has had his team rise 8 places and counting?

Look honestly I think the dogs would put up a fight in the finals than we would.

In saying that if Freo can win tomorrow night I will be happy we would be playing finals.

At the start of he season if you said we'd beat the pies and essendon I would have taken it. Mind you if you then told me we'd lose to freo and sydney and stuff up our finals chances I would have been shattered.

But we won our final game, something we have struggled with previously.

Typical melbourne but we didn't panic to much when they got to 7 points. We slotted the goals when we had to.

But to finish off beating essendon was great. Just ended there season on a more miserable note.

Ah yes, but.... Daniher also kept Smith goaless!

Oh that is great. I laughed hard and long on that

All this 'performance in finals' clap trap! Our club has one of the best finals records over the journey... it may even be the best!

I don't expect a flag in my lifetime BUT

Crows beat Richmond, Dockers beat Dogs, we knock Richmond out first week of the finals

Reckon I'd take that :)

Well we find ourselves in 9th place hoping the dogs lose.

For me that says it all about our talent level, we have  a 9th / 8th talent list.

Mid field is one of the better ones, Back line is good but our forward line is average on their better days.

WE have one KPF who is average, TMac has lost all form or is injured and there is no one else. Today we had two small forwards in Kossi and Spargo who were poor against one of the poorer side in the competition.

Unless we can somehow improve our forward line we are going no further in the next few years.

So over to you and your review Mr. President.

Anyone see Petracca pinch Viney at the 3/4 huddle & was laughing? Maybe that sums us up

Despite the many criticisms I've made of this club and the standard of the team we played, that 2nd quarter was at least a brief glimpse of what this club can do.

Add a power forward and a player like Mcdonald Tipungwuti and we could be a contender.

There have been some positives this year with players.

May to his credit came back fit and put in a sensational year and should be AA full back.

Trac we finally saw his potential and what he is capable of

We have found a great kid in Rivers and jackson is also going to be good

Oliver just continued on with his form

I'm sure there were more positives but another pre season next year I would be furious if we aren't in the 8.

Your gilding the lily ww.

Goodwin got us into a crap position by refusing to players in there correct positions and Why was Weideman left out of the first 5 games when he clearly wasn't injured.

for 24 hours WB even if we stay there it does not change the basic problems

so SAY we qualify and play away to Weagles

Smith stays in due to their height unless we role the ball on Hore?

vandenberg makes way for Harmes who trains the house down?

ANB makes way for the Jones fairytail?

Melky did not do enough to keep out Jackson to match their aerial power?

theyre the calls we have to make

Vanders and ANB did their job and more today.

Looking at his recent performances it doesn't surprise me much that he wouldn't get a game.  Almost always runs or is pushed under the ball. Trouble is we have noone else.

We are 8th for the next 25 hours at least.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
