Lynden Dunn Joins The Injury List

Dunn is not the Demons' only injury concern, with key defender Jared Rivers in doubt for Round 1.

The club has Rivers listed as suffering from "hamstring soreness", but is awaiting further results.

Draftee James Frawley, so impressive through the pre-season that he was a chance for Round 1, is definitely facing a stint on the sidelines.

Frawley has been diagnosed with a foot-stress fracture and is out for six weeks.

Don't you just love last-minute injuries! :( :(

The biggest worry at the moment is obviously Rivers, and with Frawley injured too, the other obvious replacements don't exactly fill me with excitment.

He's got 10 days to come good, so keep your fingers and toes crossed.

It sound like Dunn was involved in a very nasty incident.

Rivers is a worry. But the other interesting news is Sylvia is not mentioned at all other than he no longer appears in the "injured list" printed in the Age. The Melbourne website still has him 1 week but I think that is a week old. If this is correct he may play a half against Willy on Sunday.

Disappointing for Frawley to miss 6 as I was looking forward to his development. But I have a feeling there will be plenty of time in the future to watch this kid play.

Good news if such is possible regarding the injury to Lynden is that the operation to repair the compressed fracture of his cheek ( not jaw ) went well and he did not require any plates to hold it in place. Will miss at least 6 weeks but is in very good spirits and should be dicharged from hospital later today.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who saw the incident as to what happened. Was it behind the play, was he lined up in the play, was it a punch or elbow? Is there any way he could have been said to be going for the ball?

If it's a genuine king hit out of play I have a view that any suspension should start from the time Dunn is able to play again. Why should the offender get a lesser penalty than the victim?

If Nixon gets 6 weeks it should start when Dunn is available for selection.

It was down on the right HFF from where we watch the game and there were other players between Lyndon and us, so I didn't really see anything. From memory though he dropped an easy mark and was injured in his second attempt to get the ball.

Fan, I hadn't arrived at our normal viewing spot and was walking past when it happened right in front of me. It would be 'in play' as Nixon and Dunn were both after the ball that was about to go over the boundary line. Nixon threw an elbow back and collected Dunn on the point of the cheekbone up near his eye. No free kick was awarded. Paul Wheatley saw what happened and went in to fly the flag.

So would probably be graded as follows:

In Play

Reckless (probably can't prove intent, not sure if Nixon actually looked at Dunn when he did it)

High impact

High contact

+ the injury resulting to Dunn to be taken into account.

Not that they will be grading it like that but 4 weeks if the VFL Tribunal is serious. I would be interested to hear Dunn's evidence too. He was complaining to a Sandy trainer once he got to the bench about it and he wasn't too glowing with his thoughts on Bo Nixon.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
