The mark Weed took in the goal square Off a Melk kick where he was looking over his right shoulder and had a collywobble defender right up his clacker was priceless.

It shut the Collingwood fans up well and truely.

Weed has matured nicely which is great for him and us.

Yes I have said he would be a champ all the way through DO!

Missed it again I have not been a fan. But I was calling for his inclusion during the first four games.

Tonight's game aside, we've lost to the other 5 teams we've played above us

We've beaten 12, 13, 15, 17, 18  as well as a depleted Pies at 7

I'm happy, just not getting carried away

IMO a 56 point win is a thrashing in Pandemic times more like an 80 point drubbing in normal 120minutes of a footy game.

I don't think many of us are getting carries away however you can only beat what is in front of you.

We have looked down out for the count all year and to bounce back in the last 3 games and be in contention for the finals for now is great for our club and supporter and it gives me joy. However we keep the lid on.

I see your point  G Y M   the test is yet to come.

Special shout out to Langdon for attempting not 1 but 2 handball receives from out of bounds on the wing.

Thoroughly entertaining, haven’t laughed that heartily on a football related action in a long time. Loving him in the side.

I gave Langdon a bake on here after the Crows game and was widely panned. OK, I thought, I’m going to watch him more closely from now on. And now I realise I was an absolute [censored] for baking him. He’s an absolute gun!

Winners on every line tonight. As good a performance as I’ve seen under Goody. The lid’s off!

Great pickup Langdon  likable  and settled in well he is a beauty for us.

We appeared to maximise Brayshaw and Oliver in the middle and rotate Viney, Trac and Sparrow through half forward as the third.

Was a standard vB game. Went hard at every contest, put his body on the line, had almost as many clangers and turnovers as he had disposals.

Find it bizarre that people rate his game today because he accidentally knocked out a player.

Your a stubborn man Nev.  VDB had an influence in the game in the 2nd quarter he was playing in the guts at times.

Dees kicked seven goal for that term.  That was game over.

Spargo was close to smartest player on ground...

Agree re: the manner of the win. I think that might be the most pleasing aspect of the performance. We won by 10 goals despite not dominating in the ruck, in CPs, in clearances and inside 50s (I presume also we didn't dominate time in forward half).

Hopefully the players are now feeling confident in our ability to compete even when we're not on top in our "one wood" areas.

Also agree re: Lever. The 2-3 errors he made were bad and noticeable but overall the way he, May, Hibberd, Salem and Lockhart are setting up behind the ball is a key reason why, the Port game aside, we've been tough to score against since we left VIctoria.

Interesting. Would love to know the figures for Petracca, Viney and Oliver for comparison's sake.

@A F - do you think 73% is about right for Brayshaw?

Last night gives me confidence we can get the balance right with the four of them.

I noticed this stat on Gus too. Fascinating. I'd still have him in there more, but team balance is such a difficult thing to master. I always think more Gus, the better, but as you say, it depends on what the other mids went at for midfield time.

In case you are not aware willmoy I have canned him from day one.

When he kicks the winning goal in the GF I am very happy for everyone to tell me I told you so.

Amazing what happens when you rotate ur mids ????

Lever's wild panic 'clearance' HB that gifted a goal...

Harmes switch kick that was cut off by Varcoe who fortunately hit the post.

Will HE chest marking a high ball in the goal square by himself..

There's plenty but we more than made up for them in other areas. a great overall game

Spargo's sideways kick on half-forward which was a turnover and resulted in a Collingwood goal was bad as well.

However, Lever and Spargo played their roles generally very well. I'm still not convinced on Harmes but he's part of our back six and our back six is playing well as a unit.

@A F with this many centre bounce attendances I think the FD has clearly made the change.

I'm excited to see us continue trying this over the next few weeks. I hope and think it is going to work.

Ahhh how good is a Sunday after a Saturday night win! :)

Thoughts on last night -

Weed - starting to become a really good key position forward, and should only get better! Kicking goals, getting to the right spots, leading strongly, crashing the packs and what I love most is that even when he knows he can’t take the mark, does everything is in power to bring the ball to ground. Saw this a bit last night and got the ball down for our crumbers.

Spargo - lots spoken about him, I’ve always thought he has great footy smarts. When he gets the ball he usually uses it well and does something to benefit the team. I like him in the 22.

Brayshaw - Quality midfielder who when played in position, can really have a huge impact on the game.

Melky - finding some form and showing glimpses of his 2018 best.

Preussy - Was really solid in the ruck. How good is it having him as a backup. To be honest I really hope he gets the chance to be the number 1 ruck at a football club one day. Whether that us or not, as I think he deserves a good run at it.

Lots to like about last night.

As you know OD' i'm not the smartest chip in the wood pile....

That's a high bar OD.

They were both from Nathan Jones weren't they? He had a bit more time and needed to hold the ball to give Langdon time to get inbounds.

I noticed that Weed seems to be developing a marking style where as he takes the grab, he twists/spins his body around in a quite pronounced fashion to protect the ball... he did it earlier further out from goal, but didn’t hold the grab.

Yeah they were actually! Think Jones had a chuckle after the second one. Right idea though!

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
