play harmes in the midfield......!!!!!!!!!!!!

6. Hibberd. He’s back! Defending really well, strong contest work and lowering his eyes more going forward. Great two weeks now

5. Trac. Unlucky not to get BOG but had to go forward to give us a target for a while and unfortunately no one could get it to him. Should have played mid all game and could have had 35 touches.

4. May. Love his body work and aggression in the contest. Thought he did a good job giving away significant inches to Lynch.

3. Gawn. Just another Gawn game. Still was great but dropped a couple marks I’d expect him to take and shanked am attempt to punch through for a point that nearly cost a goal. Unfortunately Max sets a high standard for himself.

2. Hannan. Only had minimal opportunities and took advantage of them.

1. Hard to pick one.... I dunno - Salem probably. Was better than last game and was not bad.

6 Gawn  Tried his guts out , won hit outs, took marks  got to the back 50, good disposal

5 Petracca. Earned 4 votes for his first qtr alone . Died out as fumbled but two good kicks created goals in last qtr   Needs to kick it more

4 Hibberd  worked hard , good defence , despite some skill errors he kept trying to create

then daylight

3 May  strong defence today and looks to bring others in from his rebounds

2 Hannan.  For 3 goals. Took limited opportunities

1 Fritsch.  For presenting as a forward.  Kicking needs work still.

apart from Harmes , the rest were mainly passengers.  Oliver and Viney hurt us from their ineffective turnovers. Killed us in fact.

- 2 Oliver

Not just the shocking turnover from the free kick, but also setup Smith with an absolute hospital handpass to the feet deep in defense.  I hardly recall him having an effective possession all game.

At his best he Oliver can be highly effective, but right now he is tottaly wasting it and turning it over all over the shop, if not directly, but setting up others for failure.

His turnover likelihood is now immense, coupled with the assured slow-down of play and possession, then turnovers, demonstrated by Viney.  Salem's game does not help, either.

(Hannan needs to do more than a few flashy cameos to get votes from me. But I am pleased to at least see those occasional sparks from him.)

I can’t see how Salem gets votes. He was getting handball receives but not often in the contest. He has also been a culprit of a slow slow style. His delivery is often short 15 metre kicks. I held high hopes for him as a Houli type running half back but he’s not quite there.  He was not the worst yesterday but not deserving of votes.

That's exactly why I gave him votes. We lack players who can create damage on the outside. Salem is one who can do that, so it's better when he's not "in and under". What I don't fully understand is why he is given a lock-down role as a HBF at the same time that he appears to be needed as the receiver.

He appears to be carrying a leg injury of some kind very slow to pick himself up on a number of occasions. Really not playing the way that we all expected!!

I agree. He appears restricted. Definitely not as energetic or at the contest as I would like to see.  Not capable of a creative midfield role right now imo

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
