Garlett would've been our top goal scorer last year if he'd played every game, so no. Rightly or wrongly, Goodwin's track record is caring about defensive pressure over goalscoring.

And as the lowest scoring team in the AFL that’s working very well.

Yep!!

Up there with some of the worst selection decisions in AFL history.

Goody, FD,  it's time to pack your bags...

That makes two of us.

So upset that I just won’t go to the game on Sunday. Dammit!

Plough get its.

Its amazing some on here are still putting blind faith in Goodwin.

We actually have the list to play finals this year, but it is him that's ruining every ounce of that happening.

But they played him round 1. When you take the field you are deemed fit.

They played him round 2 - even though he had to be nursed through it on just over 50% game time -  because the players he's competing against for a place, VDB, Hannan, Spargo and Pickett were either unfit or unavailable. Now they all are he needs to step up. Made clear by Goodwin in his recent interview.

Once again, not complicated.

Mixing up my rounds, forgot the restart was Round 2.

I don't watch the games live any longer.

I record and flick though...selections like these are part of the reason.

I just can't justify taking time out to watch them live when the FD make the whole thing a farce at the selection table.

The team can't be trusted but it's no wonder when the FD can't be to start with.

The rot starts at the top...

And it’ll be another dour affair this Sunday with us kicking about 5 goals in total due to our lack of real targets/goal kickers.

It's not complicated at all.

Bennell is a far better player half fit than those you've mentioned.

Pickett I would keep in, forget the others...

We're crying out for class and someone who can kick the ball and this is what we come up with...

Then WHY pick him for round 2?? LACKS LOGIC! He is a much better bet now than VDB, HANNAN and ESPECIALLY SPARGO!

Anyone that can't see this must be living on another planet!

The one that needs to step up IS THE COACH!!

You mean the bloke that has no idea what he's doing? What about the likes of Corey Wagner or Toby Bedford who were fit and ready to go?

If you're legit taking Goodwin on his word then I think its you that's confused.

What's complicated is Goodys coaching ability.

But honestly?  There are really few surprises here if you tune in to what the club have said across the week.

Find this aspect of it interesting: so many here [censored] and moan about how devoid of content the interviews with Goodwin, Mahoney etc. are - when in reality they provide a good insight into the rational and context for player choice. No surprises in the selections - if you've been paying attention.

Thanks spirit.

This says it all to me:

I can’t understand the selection of this side at times.

"Some of the players that are getting games in that team at this moment aren’t good enough for AFL footy."

Goodwin continues to baffle everyone even educated former coaches.

I watched Spargo in 2018 and some of his delivery as the 2nd last person in the chain was excellent, however he's never looked fit to me, puffing and hands on knees constantly

You mustn’t have seen his first game of 2020z it was deplorable. Didn’t hit a single target: he is a putrid footballer. He also tries to lead at the football and doesn’t realise he is 4ft 7 and can’t take an overhead mark. He can ship right off.

Spargo and Kozi - they party together, they chase girls and opponents together and they score goals and assists together.

What's not to like?

Spargo

Don't confuse issues 'bing'...a few of us have seen the selection telegraphed.

No surprises as you say, except for Spargo..didn't see that one coming.

...but it doesn't make it any better.

Selection has been a dogs breakfast for a few years now.

It's getting worse.

Spargo, AVB, Hannan  etc etc  all in ahead of Bennell

Goodwin thinks its still 2018 and chaos ball will get us back to a prelim.

Cant play chaos ball with brilliant users of the footy like Bennell  in the team

Of course you didn't. Because like the rest of us, you have no information on how players not in the firsts are tracking.

Fffffffff...

So you reckon we're tracking well?

...and selection is just "tickety boo".

Enjoy...

Watching the game tonight.

Ratten at least looks like he is a coach and gets involved emotionally

teauge on the other hand just sits there like goody,

I prefer someone who is engaged emotionally with the game and the supporters, both when we do something great and something stupid!!

Not a bad effort ( being smart) by Goody and his team picking 3 talls out of the 4 inclusions. Know they will not all play but looking at weather for Melb on Sunday it will be wet. Good picks if playing up here in Qld during day but give me a break how in the hell do they come to this decision. Add in Spargo who just can't play the game and we are in big trouble. Hope not but not at all confident on this team.

Great to see other outside of this website agree with us!

Goodwin has doubters and the noise is rumbling Simon!

Bit of heat coming his way after Sunday if we lose!

No.

He got the chop from two clubs as an assistant coach for a reason.

Charlie Spargo, if you’re reading this......stop reading this.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
