Best you find a safe space.

Always best to avoid the twittery #MAGA jargon, if possible.

You’re suggesting Sky News is an impartial news source. The same Sky News Which employs Andrew Bolt and Chris Kenny to voice their “impartial” views to the country on a regular basis. That Sky News?

Sorry I haven't replied earlier dc; I've been out in the garden pulling weeds in this lovely sunshine.

Survey after survey shows that the ABC is the most trusted news source for Australians.  Personally, I don't find them biased like those of a Conservative nature seem to think.

That's just my opinion.  Others have a different opinion and I'm fine with that, I just don't agree with them.

odd that you just selected news service. over $1B funding is for a bit more than just news. FB can do it for nothing :) (well have been)

i also have my reservations about "surveys" and the "questions" they ask. funnily in all my years i've never been polled for my opinion on the abc

i don't consider myself "conservative" or "right". I'm a bit all over the place depending on the issue (but generally never on the extremes). what i do dislike is idiologues or people who find it necessary to align themselves exclusively to a political entity

i definitely struggle to understand those who can't see systemic bias in the abc. i can only conclude it is because those people just enjoy being preached to by the choir

Check.

I just saw this in The Age... now perhaps there isnt full context around what Edward said, but if what was said is true, then culturally, Ed still doesn't get the need for a genuine acknowledgement of what has gone on.

HL doesnt want life membership, he merely wants his experience acknowledged.

Nah, not bribery per se... its how the white class  individualist systems works, reputation, reverence, access to $, people, notoriety... Ed just happens to map it out into a context that it's not relevant (or wouldn't be accepted).

What about the Police who didn't even wear face masks at the protest;   but still found time to get up close and personal,  and pepper spraying those of the protestors,  as they were breaking up for their relevant transport home.

Shouldn't those Police be isolated at home .?

are you saying that non-white class systems don't work that way????????

you need to take the blinkers off or be more careful what you post

and yes, ed should apologise and admit those things happened and not offer stupid bribes

Yes, thats exactly what I am saying @daisycutter, individualist vs collectivist societies operate quite differently.

'be careful what I post'? Because you/others will judge me? sounds like something that would have been said to HL...

but perhaps you are right... I conflated all white people being individualistic.. I guess the Sami's aren't.

Sky News Chanel for a start. You know, the Channel that was selected to be our overseas braodcaster before Conroy stepped in and gave it to #theirABC in perpetuity.

...

The worst in Oz are ABC, and The Guardian and the HUN on the other side. At least the Australian gives a platform to Left leaning contributors.

This is interesting. Sky News is less biased than the ABC. But the HUN is one of the most biased. If I read you correctly.

Does Sky News have a little bias, or no bias? If so, to whom or what?

I am not going to claim the NYT and the WaPo are not biased. But I am interested in what manner you believe they are biased. To whom or what (or against)?

(Also: Fox News is biased, and Sky News is not?)

That was because the gov't realised that being the voice representing Aus to the rest of the world is something that would naturally be congruent to the charter of a national broadcaster.

A national broadcaster that the gov't has some form of control over.

Rather than a private organisation answerable to an American billionaire who may or may not have the best interests of Australia in mind, or be mindful of presenting a view of Australia to the rest of the world. Such an organisation might actually prioritise maximising profit, and in such an arena, that could possibly end up actually being detrimental of the country it is representing.

(Aus gov'ts of all stripes have historically had a hard time standing up to American billionaires with considerable media ownership in Aus.)

It's like they suddenly remembered that ...

As before though, the answer is irrellevant. None of these outlets OTHER than the ABC has a public funding charter to provide balance. It doest, and has not for a very long time.

Meanwhile back on topic.........

But Lumumba accused the club of “shifting the narrative” in its claim of trying to reach out to him.

“Let me very clear: I have no intention of sitting down with anyone until they publicly acknowledge some fundamental facts,” he wrote in a thread on Twitter.

“Why a public acknowledgement? Because I have been discredited publicly. I don’t want a private handshake. I want justice for how I was treated. That includes correcting public denials about my account of the racism and isolation I faced.”

Lumumba called on Collingwood to acknowledge “they did not have the cultural competence and organisational literacy to deal with a real culture of racism at the club, of which I was a victim for a number of years”.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/jun/12/collingwoods-nathan-buckley-keen-to-talk-with-heritier-lumumba-over-club-racism-allegations

Collingwood are spinning this

So he should demand a public apology, on The Project as well.

@mods I think you’ve let this one get out of hand. It’s moved well out of a discussion of Heritier and his issues at the pies. Might be time to clean up the comments.

The one part you failed to highlight was that the charter says they have to be balanced.

They are not, and only extremists think so.

Why is it out of hand, the treatment of HL, the media, various politicians, are all part of the bigger picture of systemic racism in Australia

If I was being cynical, I'd say Eddie is trying to further diminish HL and his claims in the eyes of the Collingwood faithful even more than the club has already (I doubt that many of the Magpie supporters would pick up on the not so subtle distinction that when you ask for fairness and respect that it isn't the same as being given a soggy salad sandwich and told to shut up).  If I wasn't being cynical, I'd say Ed has the EQ of a turnip beetroot!

He is entitled to post an opinion/perception, it's only where opinion is stated as fact, which happens quite often on this board, that a person should be challenged as wrong

It also depends on your definition of class system

White racists/supremacists believe they are a class above, particularly above anybody with a brown skin, perhaps that it was the poster was alluding to

Eddie McGuire is a racist, has the infamous runs on the board

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
