"Probably in the summer we just lost a few heading into the season so we get (Christian) Salem back, (Nathan) Jones, (Harrison) Petty, (Mitch) Hannan, (Bennell), (Aaron) vandenBerg - so there's six guys that will come along pretty well for us.“

Surely AVB won’t be right. I thought he was meant to be out for 12 weeks.

It has already been around a month since round 1 and doubtful that we will be back playing before July.

A point that Goodwin made in that article is a good one, Burgess has experience with tight turnarounds and condensed fixtures. The premier league is such a crammed fixture during December and having that knowledge of how to approach it could be key.

No mention the Preusster.

He must also be good to go by now.

Having a deep list could be a significant advantage in a compressed fixture as I think most sensible clubs would be looking to rest players week to week, to avoid burning out their best 22.  If Burgess and the selection committee can get that balance right as the season progresses, I actually think we are in pretty good shape.

Conversely, I really do hope the league think things through and put a sensible end date on season 2020.  As MFC supporters, we have witnessed first hand what carrying too many injuries into a preseason does in 2019.  To be honest, I'm pretty much hoping that we treat 2020 as a development year to get key players and our system right for season 2021, which hopefully is something like a more normal season.

The lay-off will be benefiting all injured players from all clubs you’d expect.

having said that, clubs like Richmond with fewer (almost no injuries) don't have the same benefit that teams with lots of injured players returning from injury have.

And, conversely, didn't I read somewhere that one club's players (was it West Coast?) have got their isolation training regime wrong  and a number of players have sustained soft tissue injuries?

Doubt it, he is blessed with divan inspiration to give the onballers an armchair ride.  ?

Or just to bolster our ruck stocks

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
