We have to get our hands on the ball in the middle to have a chance of stuffing it up like that.

Jeez I hope not. McGovern, Barrass & co will have a field day taking intercept marks, contested & otherwise. That's why I'd have picked Weid over Brown. Weid may not catch as many as we'd like but he does contest in packs. Brown relies on his running & lead up play & has never been a contested marking forward. We'll need smart running patterns inside F50 and blokes looking for and hitting up targets coming forward.

I also agree with @CHF that we are short a rotation or two in the midfield. I'm expecting Harmes will have to go in there

So Dazzler, do you think in the short term Jones could be reinvented in the ANB role ? He has much cleaner hands, is a better decision maker & is a goal scoring threat from anywhere around 50

Yes,  but ANB is great on defence efforts.  Jones would have to match this,  and would be better forward, than ANB.

One of them to the bench for the 'G'.

That, and i think we'll try and run them off their feet, like Port did to us in round 1 last year.

It's been well documented that improving our fitness was a key aspect of the off-season. Let's put it to the test.

Both Brayshaw and Viney are named starting in the forward line. That gives us a few chop outs.

With shorter quarters and langdon/Tomlinson playing close to 100% game time, we should be ok.

Agreed 'DD'...

And I think we'll bring in some more smarts, at the 'G',  against GWS.   See spargo

I'd start Brayshaw in the Pivot,  to play behind the ball, and be offensive from there.

Oliver to play hard footy,  starting inside F50.   To create Mayhem.

I could see Harmes given the job on Kelly first up with Viney running a loose tag on Yeo. I love it if we could force them into being reactive rather than proactive.

The two big surprises to me are Brown over Weideman and that we're playing a side with all four of ANB, Spargo, Pickett and Bedford all in it.

Still, possibly ANB aside I see why they're picked.

I suspect that because there is no VFL until further notice, clubs will be inclined to make more changes to their teams from week to week to ensure that they have many players capable of performing at the highest level. It will also keep players on their toes and fully committed.

Bottom line is that the teams with player depth are the most likely to succeed.

We've only gone with one ruck...must expect Max to run out the game talking of midfield rotations.

Not sure Brown can ruck, maybe Tommy for a quick chop out.

Don't think we will use Tomlinson there as the wing seems the preferred for him.

The Pies had Grundy run most of tonight I guess with very occasional relief from Cox.

On the above I also call out people who insult and unfairly denigrate people in other public forums, like at the football.

And in case you need reminding demonland is a public forum.

Thanks for your support, but a few of points of order:

1.  Looking back on my original post through an objective lense, I can well see how@Satyriconhome could have misinterpreted my point as it was somewhat loosely worded on my behalf;

2.  I'm not really that thin skinned about things to have taken goss offence to the banter back and forth that followed;

3.  Yes Demonland is a public forum, but not completely.  We probably do need to be mindful of assertions made about public figures and entities as they have nowhere to hide and as highlighted by a number of high profile public figures, the effects of social media bullying can have real consequences for their mental health.  Whilst, I realise that some us are probably known to each other in the real world, on the most part, I think any name calling has limited consequences for the typical poster.  It may come as a surprise, but I'm generally not called RGB by people in the street, and I'm guessing people don't call you Binman!

4.  My observations and personal veiw is that, whilst a certain amount of banter between posters is inevitable and can be entertaining at times, when it gets too judgemental, personal and toxic and starts to dominate the conversation, it becomes quite annoying and really detracts from what we are all on here for.  Not that I think this conversation has got out of control by any means.

Really dialling up the pressure forward line - we are betting we can keep it down there and away from Oscar’s opponent.

Brown over Weideman is a worry but the right decision. Gawn should be right with 16 less minutes out there.

Surreal but go Dees.

IMO we have made a mistake in selecting Spargo, Pickett and Bedford together in this team. I don't think any of the three can rotate effectively to play on the ball. We will be down in Midfield rotations and WC will exploit this.

I think we are at least one, maybe two rotations short in the midfield with this team. if we cannot win the ball in the middle or force turnovers we have no use for a quick, small fleet of forwards as the ball will not get in there.

I would have taken Wiedeman over Brown.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out ,as they have been doing closed training sessions for the late two + weeks. Would suggest that the coaches have a plan which no one on this site will know.  I am going to just sit back and try and enjoy the games as much as possible. GO DEES

Has anyone got an insight on Rivers? Slot of supercoahers (myself included) thought he was going to get early games but nothing. Is he not meeting some standard at training? With Salem and Jones out and still no spot on the HBF it's hard to see him cracking onto the side this year?

Talk about over reaction

Did not get selected fir the 2 Marsh games  so did you think he would come in as a surprise.

About  time Fantasy and SCoachers realised they don't have any say in how a Club  picks it's team each week.

Rivers has done everything asked of him and  yes He is one of my favourites to get in the team on the HBF by the end of 2020 injuries or not.

All of the training reporters have given Trent the thumbs up and now it's a bit hard not to give him a spot ahead of Salem Jets Hibbo or Hore and Lockhart as most of that group play good on talls or smalls.

The draw will be thrown around and 4 or 5 day breaks will endure that we will play 30 plus msybe 34/5 over the season such is our depth I believe.

Its sad that VFL is Cancelled  but our guys will be At least the fittest and super ready for a Chance  the AFL.

Rivers  will Get his chance and may even take it without being dropped!

Just forget Fantasy teams it's exactly what it's named The selectors pick the real ones !!!

How?

In your initial post, you said that we could see Gawn and no Weid/Brown, with Tomlinson being back-up.  I want Weid, a recognised back-up, in so that we don't have to take Tomlinson out of his best position.

I've highlighted that Carlton did that last night (ie played without a recognised back-up ruck) and it hurt them.

Really? they were being smashed when Kreuzer was on the ground wining tap outs and scrubby hand balls and kicks then the Tigers got those errant disposals and went in a merry dance!

After 1/4 time Blues started to put pressure on the Tiger runners and mids and looked much better

It had nothing to do with the tucks as Soldo and Nankerbis had no influence nor did Casboult other than his marking in general play.

Its the same fir the Dees we have to get the clearances (clean like Pies last night) and Make use of them from Gawny or NNat.

The 2 or 3 chopout minutes from either Tommy Brown or Thommo per quarter are not IMO nit going to lose us the game

It will come gown to how our forwards coordinate and use the ball and kick straight!

The irony in your post.

The point really DD made is the SC or Fantasy players were expecting Rivers to debut! It looks like acc to Josh.

He then panics and starts asking his training etc and thst he may not even get chance this year!

Thsts the complete over reaction as Rivers will debut and IMO will be a regular at the end of season  over any one of the HBF ers I have mentioned.

In other words will happen but not overnight or nowhere neear like the Josh's of the world expect because he has a Price in their little fantasy games!

I'm not necessarily advocating it, just reporting facts, and if you read what was said, the implication is that backup rucks would barely be needed.

Not sure the reigning premiers vs a struggling team is the best example for the reasoning, but didn't Carlton start their comeback once Kreuzer went off?

See my post on Page 7 re Kreuzer
