Moonface is these days a Dee, I believe.    Maybe the smarter half,  is also a Dee.???

 

I think a merger of Roos and Suns makes more sense.   Why send a perennially struggling club,  with a predominantly Sky Blue jumper south into the cold winters.

Norths jumper would look fantastic up on the Gold-Coast in their warm Winters.   Emblazon a Golden Sun somewhere on the front of the jumper.

 

Start a new team in Tassie when the time is right,  with warm colours on the jumper.   Playing out of Hobart and Devonport.  With fewer away games for this team.

Devonport would cater to the whole Northern half of Tassie.    Launceston does not do this. 

Launceston was an each way bet,  that cannot work in the longer run.

 

#edit:  Does anyone actually like the gcSuns Orange jumper,  at all.?   Imagine if one day the Suns were playing in a Final against the Giants.

A major clash of colours;  just too similar.

    We secure identities, get rid of some shocking team strips and watch Collingwood and Carlton tear themselves apart trying to be the ascendant club.

    If the entire season is played behind closed doors, then Casey should absolutely be an option, to save us a few bucks and utilise that shocking wind out there to our advantage (local knowledge!)

    They've played annual pre season games there since 2017, and most years since 2008, so they've already had a foot in the door in terms of hosting top flight games.

    Under absolutely no circumstances can they play a game there in front of a crowd. There is no elevation, per most suburban/country pre season venues.

    Exactly right Dr Gonzo don’t even know why we’re giving merger discussions any time old thinking - no one in AFL or club land is talking about it yes because of tv rights and too hard to make it happen we know that from 90s when it was all go - clubs are membership based organisations who would rather fold than merge with the opposition.  AFL clearly not going to let clubs fold and we have much stronger balance sheet and debt position than at least half the clubs and we invented the game wrote the rules end of debate

     Footy broadcaster Andy Maher has suggested mid-June is the window the AFL are aiming for to continue the season.

    Maher floated the idea on his radio show this afternoon.

    “I'm told Bob, by reliable sources, they've got a date in mind,” he said on SEN Drive alongside co-host Bob Murphy.

    “It's second week of June-ish. Full bottle toward it. 11 June is a little date that I've been... let's just see where that goes. We'll just keep an eye on it, I didn't want to chase it too hard because how would you know. But I'm told in high offices around the place, people who have a lot riding on this, that 11 June is a date that may have been scheduled in. Whether that's official, I'm not sure."

    So they're looking to recommence the season around about the time the virus is expected to peak? Rocket surgeons running this competition (assuming Maher is actually on the money of course)

    If Andy Maher has heard something from a reliable souce, I'd bet that it is just one of the contingency plans being put in place by the AFL. I would hope that an organisation like the AFL would have plans for all sorts of eventualities including re-starting the season as early as possible (say,mid-June) as well as re-starting it as late as possible. Or not at all, of course.

    So on the one hand we're playing games from Thursday 11 June, and on the other hand the doomsayers reckon it's 18 months until we can leave our houses when the vaccine is ready.

    Very surprised to hear that Adelaide are not in the group. The SANFL who own the licence must have been taking out a fair amount of the profits. In the 2018-2019 year for example they were debt free and had a cash operating profit of over $3M

    I would be interesting to know the pokies revenue for those 3 Vic clubs. I know Hawks are the biggest blood suckers in terms of pokies revenue but can't recall the other 2.

    If I were the Victorian clubs, I’d be looking at playing some form of competition this year between themselves. If travel is restricted for another 6 months, it’s something they ought to consider. Help keep the competition alive. No crowds, played on suburban grounds like Moorabbin, Casey, Vic Park etc.

      A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

      The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder.       What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
